Oasis tickets’ “dynamic pricing” to be investigated in government probe

As a die-hard Oasis fan since their debut album “Definitely Maybe” back in 1994, I can’t help but feel a mix of elation and dismay over the news of their reunion tour. On one hand, it’s a dream come true to see Noel and Liam Gallagher sharing the stage again after all these years. On the other hand, the exorbitant ticket prices due to dynamic pricing practices are leaving many fans like me out in the cold.

The buzz around Oasis’s confirmed reunion and concert dates has been dampened due to concerns about ticket prices.

After a fourteen-year rift, contentious siblings Noel and Liam Gallagher declared a truce on August 27th. They revealed plans to perform concerts jointly in significant cities across the United Kingdom.

Shortly afterward, tickets went on sale, but due to the implementation of a flexible pricing system, the government decided to broaden their earlier intentions for an investigation into ticket reselling activities. This expansion now includes the contentious practice of dynamic pricing.

Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy expressed disappointment on Sunday, stating: “It’s disheartening to learn about Oasis making a comeback, but then find exorbitant prices that keep regular fans from experiencing their beloved group in concert.”

She stated: “Our administration intends to prioritize fans in music. Consequently, we plan to discuss topics related to the openness and application of fluctuating pricing, along with the technology behind queueing systems that encourage it, within our upcoming review on consumer safeguards for ticket reselling.”

Collaborating with artists, the industry, and enthusiasts, we can establish a more equitable framework to eradicate scalping, overpriced resales, and guarantee affordable ticket pricing for everyone.

Oasis has not yet responded to the news.
