Oblivion player breaks the bank to keep paranoid elf alive throughout his murderous rampage: ‘I have created Super Saiyan Glarthir’

A dedicated player of Oblivion Remastered has taken extraordinary measures to ensure a particularly violent NPC, Glarthir, not only survives but also takes revenge: he orchestrated events so that Glarthir not only dealt with all his tormentors, but also slaughtered nearly half the town’s guards in the process. Remarkably, Glarthir managed to escape without any consequences.

As a devoted fan, I’d like to share my experience with one particular NPC, Glarthir – a wood elf residing in Skingrad. He approaches me with an intriguing request for assistance. The questline he offers is titled “Paranoia,” and it centers on his deeply-held suspicion that a plot is being orchestrated against him. Glarthir asks for my help to expose the deception by tailing three of his suspected adversaries.

One possibility is that you might need to inform Glarthir that his suspicions are indeed accurate. Once he’s been told, he may request you to eliminate certain non-player characters (NPCs). If you decline this task, Glarthir may decide to act independently and launch an attack against the three NPCs he suspects.

The main issue lies with Glarthir’s combat abilities; he often struggles in such situations. For now, let’s proceed with the game as usual, and typically, Glarthir will meet his end when attempting to attack an NPC, who will have the support of the town guards.

Player Plane-Session-6624 found the current approach insufficient, and instead chose to focus on preserving Glarthir’s life using the GR+ method. At first, they attempted a straightforward strategy by equipping Glarthir with top-tier endgame items, but…

Plane-Session shared, “I informed Glarthir that he’s being watched by everyone. In an attempt to trick him back, I bought a complete mithril set and an elven battleaxe for him, hoping to return his own items secretly. Unfortunately, it seems the ‘reverse pickpocket’ feature is not available in Remastered.

An alternate approach is to enhance Glarthir to the maximum extent feasible. I have at hand a fortify 100 strength and endurance spell, along with a potent healing spell for him, yet he barely seems capable of causing significant harm to the guards, and my magical energy reserves are depleting too quickly to keep him healed throughout the fight.

Among the fellow players of Oblivion, several ideas were proposed on how to ensure the survival of the psychotic wood elf until he could eliminate his adversaries (and the guards who would invariably interfere). Ultimately, enhancing the character’s shield and blunt damage proved effective, while a potent healing spell also played a crucial role.

Plane-Session announced that he had developed a Super Saiyan named Glarthir in a recent update. According to him, this character has effortlessly defeated countless guards, eliminated all his adversaries… and managed to escape unscathed?

During the flight session, I reinforced Glarthir using several spells. A protective shield spell enhanced his defense by 70%, a fortify spell boosted his blunt abilities by 100%, another spell increased his agility, which significantly reduced stagger effects, and yet another spell elevated his endurance by 100%. To maintain all these buffs and keep his health in check, I invested approximately 4,000 gold pieces on sorcery potions.

The initial objective, known as Bernadette, was swiftly overcome by this chilling version of Glarthir. Yet, Plane-Session remains vigilant nearby, ready to obstruct her path as she approaches the door. This way, if she rushes towards the door, he can eliminate her without requiring any external guard interference.

Following this, the most significant battle ensues as Glarthir must overcome four guards to get to his next objective. However, Plane-Session intervenes by strategically splitting up the guards into multiple smaller skirmishes. This way, buffed-up Glarthir can easily handle a 1-on-1 fight before they reach Toutius Sextius.

According to Plane-Session, “Toutius is quite stubborn, he attempts to exit by running towards his bedroom door, but I keep blocking it for him.” However, there’s no escape for Toutius. He desperately tries to open the door and flee, only to be repeatedly hit with an iron battle axe by 100 Blunt Glarthir.

Final target: Davide Surilie. Glarthir navigates to the house incident-free, and another round of door slamming traps Davide in a room with a potentially deadly wood elf and his well-equipped gear. Interestingly, this NPC has a brother, Gaston, who, upon hearing his brother’s distress, approaches the duo: “Intriguingly, he allows us to depart without conflict and appears more focused on the intrusion than on his brother’s demise.

In an echo of the malfunction seen in Oblivion, Glarthir appears to experience some sort of glitch. Instead of heading towards the Plane-Session as usual, he makes his way to Skingrad chapel and remains there, seemingly unresponsive to all attempts at conversation. “Glarthir, after all I’ve done for you?” he is met with silence.

After Plane-Session assists Glarthir in slaying a few more unruly guards, he departs the town and stays put for four days. Upon their return, Glarthir is found safe and sound, peacefully asleep in his bed. For the moment, it seems as though he has no plans to venture outside his residence, suggesting that he will stay alive for now.

To be honest, it wasn’t something Bethesda likely anticipated: a random NPC shouldn’t have the ability to massacre several townsfolk and neutralize half of the guards. Yet, that’s the charm of… well, the enchantment, I daresay, along with one player’s peculiar enthusiasm for assisting a somewhat unhinged wood elf in dispatching his foes.
