Oblivion Remastered is so true to the original RPG that you can still use a glitch to roll credits in just 15 minutes

As a devoted fan, I can’t contain my excitement as The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered has officially hit the shelves! And guess who already conquered it in record time? None other than the legendary speedrunner, Bacon himself! In an astounding 12 minutes and 30 seconds, he managed to outsmart the game using an age-old glitch that somehow slipped through the cracks during the remastering process. Simply incredible!

Spoilers ahead for Oblivion’s main quest.

Are you still around? Great! In the game Oblivion, your mission involves locating the last living male heir of Emperor Uriel Septim. He goes by the name Martin and is portrayed by Sean Bean. As with many roles played by this actor, his character meets his end at the close of the story, sacrificing himself to protect Cyrodiil from the Daedric Prince of Destruction, Mehrunes Dagon.

Typically, you need to accomplish the primary mission and gain access to a particular tower in the Imperial City to finish the game, but there’s a secret entrance nearby that’s often overlooked due to being hidden behind another door. If you discover it early on, you can leapfrog directly to the final scene and reach the end of the game. That’s just the Bethesda way.

A traditional approach for reaching this location once involved creating an improvised ladder using suspended paintbrushes that allowed you to ascend the tower. After leaping from the top, you’d land at the base and access a concealed entrance. According to PC Gamer, Bacon opted for a novel tactic enabled by the Oblivion remaster running on Unreal Engine 5 instead.

As a speedy gamer, I dash through the sewer tutorial at breakneck speed and zip directly to the Imperial City using instant travel. Then, I pull off some fun, gravity-defying stunts, bypassing the main scenes and landing straight in the game’s grand finale.

According to Bacon, he’s employing an Orc character due to its Berserk ability with the Fortify Fatigue greater power. He activates this power, exhausts all his stamina, and allows it to deplete while sitting in a chair, causing his character to become like a ragdoll due to negative stamina levels. While in this state, he intensively scrolls the wheel, positioning the camera far above his character and allowing him to stick the camera to walls. This manipulation helps him get into the Temple of the One by skipping a door.

I appreciate him providing that detailed explanation, as without it, I wouldn’t have understood the situation. It’s an amazing trick and seems relatively easy to execute, so if you want to conquer the game without actually playing it, give it a try. One advantage is it’ll seal all those bothersome Oblivion gates, allowing you to roam freely around Cyrodiil without fretting about them.
