As a die-hard fan of the Octopath Traveler series, I can hardly contain my excitement as Square Enix continues to shatter sales milestones! The fact that the franchise has collectively sold over 5 million units worldwide is nothing short of astounding.
Over the past couple of years, Octopath Traveler has become one of Square Enix’s larger and more thriving franchises, consistently drawing a good number of players. According to Square Enix, the series has achieved yet another significant sales benchmark.
Via Twitter, the publisher revealed that the Octopath Traveler series has surpassed 5 million total sales across all platforms globally. The company hasn’t disclosed individual sales numbers for each title yet, but as of 2022, the original Octopath Traveler reached 3 million units sold, and last year Square Enix confirmed that Octopath Traveler 2 had already achieved 1 million unit sales.
Based on the ongoing critical and market acclaim that the HD-2D turn-based RPG series has been receiving, it’s clear that more games in the vein of Octopath Traveler are likely to emerge in the future. However, for now, Square Enix seems to be focusing on delivering more HD-2D content. Recently, they released Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake in November, and we can expect Dragon Quest 1 and 2 HD-2D Remake to follow suit sometime next year.
