OD is “a Bit Risky” and “a Game Like No Other” – Kojima

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but be absolutely thrilled at the prospect of Hideo Kojima‘s latest creation, OD. The man behind Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding is known for pushing boundaries and delivering experiences that are uniquely his own. With OD, he’s promising a game-movie hybrid that’s as experimental as Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hand, a game that utilized the sun as a combat mechanic on the Game Boy Advance.

In the pipeline of Hideo Kojima and his team at Kojima Productions are projects like “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach”, “Physint”, and “OD”. While every game from Kojima is bound to capture interest, it’s “OD” that seems particularly captivating. Labeled as a horror experience that blends elements of a game and a movie, and featuring a prominent cast, it promises to be quite an innovative endeavor.

In a recent chat with Variety, Kojima emphasized that the upcoming project OD is quite daring, describing it as “an unprecedented game” and a “novel endeavor” even for him, as its creator.

Kojima described this as an unprecedented game. It’s unique, difficult to articulate, and carries a degree of risk, representing a fresh challenge in the world of gaming for him.

On different occasions, Kojima has expressed that OD will be unique, similar to how Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hand was distinctive. This game, also developed by Kojama, for the Game Boy Advance, used a sunlight sensor as a key element in its battle system.

Later during the conversation, Kojima touched upon the brief subject of Hollywood director Jordan Peele’s role in OD.

He shared that he admired Jordan and attended the movie “Nope”. At the moment, he was hosting a podcast on Spotify. He dedicated an episode to “Nope” and discovered that Jordan Peele was a fan of his work. As a result, they arranged a Zoom call! Although Jordan is younger than him, they didn’t share the same generation, but after only five minutes of conversation, he felt like they had been friends since childhood. This tends to happen frequently when someone’s thought process or intellectual makeup aligns with his own. However, moving on, they decided to meet in Los Angeles. After multiple gatherings in L.A., they discussed their respective projects. He explained the idea behind “OD” to him, and Jordan showed great interest, so he asked him to collaborate.

Earlier, Kojima shared that Jordan Peele will contribute creatively to the project called OD. He didn’t go into detail about what specific tasks Peele would handle, but he did mention that other well-known celebrities like him are also working with him on OD.

Previously this year, Kojima Productions submitted applications for the trademarks “Social Scream System” and “Social Stealth,” which could offer clues about aspects of the upcoming game OD. Explore further details here.
