It has been confirmed that Olivia Hussey, renowned for her role as Juliet in Franco Zeffirelli’s version of the timeless Shakespearean drama Romeo and Juliet, passed away at the age of 73.
The unfortunate news about Olivia Hussey Eisley was shared through a post on her Instagram account, stating: “With deep regret, we confirm her peaceful departure from this world, which occurred at home, enveloped by the love of her family, on December 27th.
Olivia was an exceptional individual, her radiant warmth, profound insight, and genuine compassion left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Originating from Buenos Aires, Argentina on the 17th of April, 1951, Olivia led a vibrant life characterized by passion, affection, and unwavering commitment to the arts, spirituality, and compassion for creatures great and small.
Olivia is survived by her devoted family: children Alex, Max, and India; husband David Glen Eisley, who shared 35 years of marriage with her; and grandson Greyson. Her legacy of love will live on in ours hearts forever. As we mourn this profound loss, we also honor the lasting impression Olivia made on our lives and her profession.

Originating from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Hussey honed her acting skills at Italia Conti Academy drama school. By the tender age of 13, she was already working as a professional actress. At just 15 years old, she landed the role of Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, which later earned her both the David di Donatello Award and the Golden Globe for New Star of the Year.
Beyond playing Juliet, I’m well-recognized for my portrayal as the Virgin Mary in the 1977 miniseries Jesus of Nazareth. Over time, I’ve earned a nickname as a “scream queen” following my appearances in various horror flicks such as Black Christmas from 1974, Psycho IV: The Beginning, and Stephen King’s IT, which I starred in during 1990.
Additionally, she has contributed her vocal talents to various Star Wars video games such as Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, Star Wars: Force Commander, and Star Wars: The Old Republic.
She is survived by her husband, three children and a grandson.
