In a campaign for reality TV star Kim Kardashian’s body-sculpting brand SKIMS, a former Newsroom cast member openly displays her physique after undergoing a double mastectomy and subsequent breast reconstruction. This initiative is jointly supported by the Susan G. Komen for the Cure charity.
During the ongoing shoot for SKIMS’ latest bra campaign, Olivia shared on Instagram that she had decided to stop feeling insecure about her mastectomy scars. She believes every scar her body bears is a testament to her resilience. Olivia hopes that other women who have felt self-conscious about their scars might find comfort and love in these photos.
Pictures also feature Olivia, mother to two-year-old Malcolm and one-month-old Méi alongside her husband John Mulaney, showcasing various styles of SKIMS bras such as the Ultimate Nurturing Bra and the Streamlined Brief Bodysuit.
Initially, the 44-year-old was not comfortable showing certain parts of her body.
The person mentioned, aged 44, expressed during the October 23rd episode of the Susan G. Komen Real Pink podcast, “I preferred to choose items that wouldn’t reveal my specific scars.” They were appreciative and promptly accommodated this request by swapping out the pieces for me without a second thought.
Olivia went on, “As I gazed at my mastectomy scars, memories of the first time I saw them flooded back, and it struck me anew how startling it was. Yet, in this moment, I decided to view these marks not just as reminders of a difficult battle, but as symbols of my resilience. And I aspire not only to accept these scars now, but to inspire other women who bear the same scars that they too have nothing to feel ashamed about.
Eventually, the actress from X-Men Apocalypse expressed her satisfaction for having worked past her initial reservations. “I’m proud of myself for conquering my fear,” she stated, “and I truly hope that other women notice those billboards, online posts, and magazine spreads and feel beautiful knowing they share the same scars as me, and that I am proudly embracing them.
Back in March, Olivia disclosed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Beyond the double mastectomy, she also underwent procedures to eliminate her uterus, fallopian tubes (hysterectomy), and ovaries (oophorectomy). These surgeries left her unable to bear children.
In September, Olivia and John joyfully added another member to their family, their second child – daughter Mei June Mulaney. She arrived through a surrogate and was conceived using an embryo that the couple had frozen earlier with IVF (In Vitro Fertilization), prior to Olivia’s reproductive operations.
On September 22, they shared on their Instagram pages that June Mulaney was born on September 14, 2024, which coincides with the year of the dragon.
