Olivia Munn Says She “Barely Knew” John Mulaney Before First Pregnancy

In the interview with GQ magazine published on November 12th, Olivia clarified that it was far from a romantic relationship as she barely knew the person.

In 2013, the alumnus of Newsroom and John crossed paths once, but they didn’t maintain contact until 2021. This renewed connection came shortly after the ex-Saturday Night Live writer completed his several-month stay in rehab for substance abuse issues, during which he was actively seeking assistance with finding a new home to live in.

Nevertheless, their relationship was short-lived as they resided on different coasts – John in New York City and Olivia in Los Angeles. Consequently, when she discovered herself expecting, there were no immediate plans for commitment, and they decided to share parenting duties instead.

She clarified, “It wasn’t a definite commitment like ‘we’ll get married and share a life,’ but rather, ‘I’ll have some role or part.’

Six months into her pregnancy, the duo confirmed their romantic relationship officially. During the initial stages of John’s recovery, Olivia had been instrumental in supporting him. She revealed that her pregnancy likely contributed significantly to keeping John focused and cheerful during the challenging phase that followed.

She recollected that moment, when John learned he was going to be a father, as the single event that made him appear carefree and joyful. I distinctly remember how thrilled he was to share this news with his family. (John was previously married to Anna Marie Tendler.)

In December 2021, Malcom was warmly received by Olivia and John. Previously in August, the former Saturday Night Live star had announced that he and Olivia had tied the knot secretly in July. Only two months after their wedding, they joyfully announced the arrival of their second child, a baby girl named Méi June Mulaney, who was born via a surrogate.

On September 22, 2024, the year of the dragon, June Mulaney made her grand entrance into the world. Her proud parents shared this joyous news on Instagram with a picture of their family and their precious newborn. They cheekily mentioned that they had “borrowed” quite a few items from the hospital! The couple adores their little girl immensely, and her name, Méi (pronounced may), means plum in Chinese.

This past week, John shared some glimpses into his family life with Olivia and their two kids.

John mentioned during his Saturday Night Live opening monologue on November 2 that our family has grown with the arrival of a baby girl born just five weeks ago. He also has a 2-year-old son. While discussing how much his life has transformed since his last performance in 2022, he expressed that it isn’t fair as his wife takes care of the newborn and he looks after the toddler.
