Olympian Maggie Steffens Details Shock After Sister-in-Law’s Death

As a dedicated follower and admirer of Maggie Steffens, I find myself deeply moved by her resilience and grace in the face of unimaginable tragedy. Losing someone as vibrant and full of life as Lulu Conner is an immense loss, and my heart goes out to Maggie, Bobby, and the entire Conner family.

Olympian Maggie Steffens is remembering her late sister-in-law Lulu Conner.

Following the heartbreaking death of Lulu at just 26 years old on July 23, while en route to Paris to support Maggie at the 2024 Paris Olympics after experiencing a medical emergency, Maggie (who is married to Lulu’s brother Bobby Conner) and her family are recalling all the wonderful aspects of Lulu as they cope with their grief.

Maggie shared with People on Sept 19 that she was a vivacious individual who brought joy to those around her, similar to Lu. Since then, Bobby and I have been striving to emulate Lu’s spirit daily, focusing on her qualities of positivity, gratitude, and kindness. Yet, we are also allowing ourselves the room to grieve and process the shock of what transpired.

As we continue to grieve and come to terms with Lulu’s departure, I feel compelled to pay tribute to her – her essence, her radiance, the delight she brought into our lives.

31-year-old athlete, Lulu, was referred to as his “unexpected younger sibling,” with their relationship growing even closer following her marriage to Bobby in November 2023.

But amid their collective heartbreak, Maggie has found the silver lining in her grief journey, sharing, “We’re really lucky that we’re still here and we get to feel her every day and honor her and be together with family.”

Lulu passed away right before Maggie represented Team USA’s women’s water polo team in the Paris Olympics, sadly, they failed to win a medal there.

After wrapping up her time in Paris following her fourth Olympics where she’d won a remarkable three gold medals, I, an ardent admirer, found myself reflecting on the numerous emotional setbacks Maggie had endured throughout her illustrious career.

In her September 1 Instagram post, she expressed gratitude for having achieved our goals in the past and finding this current Olympic experience uniquely challenging. Due to personal pressures in Paris, she held back feelings of grief, sadness, and guilt during the Olympics so she could fulfill her dreams with the team. Now that they’re home, and she’s had a chance to rest, those emotions are surfacing.

She went on saying, ‘At the moment, I’m using this time to ponder, develop myself, and make the most of spending time with my spouse, family, teammates, and friends! Savoring the blessing of life, I aim to express gratitude and affection to each one of you daily.’
