Olympian Rose Harvey Reveals She Finished Paris Race With a Broken Leg

As a lifestyle expert, I find Rose Harvey to be nothing short of extraordinary. Her resilience and determination in the face of adversity is truly inspiring. Despite suffering a stress fracture in her femur during the Olympic marathon, she refused to give up and managed to finish the race with a time of over two hours and 50 minutes – an incredible feat for anyone, let alone someone with such a severe injury.

Rose Harvey can do it with a broken leg.

2024 Olympic marathon participant from Britain, who placed 78th and completed the run in slightly more than 2 hours and 50 minutes, revealed that she persevered through her race after sustaining an early-race fracture.

In a conversation with the BBC on August 13th, Rose, who had earlier completed a marathon in an impressive 2 hours and 22 minutes, confessed that the race was extremely challenging for her. The steep inclines didn’t make things easier, and the descents were torturous. As the run progressed, it only became more agonizing. By the halfway point, she knew that the rest of the race would be excruciatingly painful.

31-years-old, she shared that she’d been experiencing hip discomfort prior to the Paris Games. The strain from her recent competition further aggravated this injury, resulting in a stress fracture in her thighbone (femur).

Nevertheless, Rose, who had been a financial attorney prior to turning professional marathoner, was resolute about completing the race since no substitute had been prepared to step in and run instead of her.

She said, “The spirit of the Olympics propelled me towards the finishing point. In any other race, I might have given up due to my inability to run as usual and the intense pain. However, reaching that finish line was crucial, it was about completing the Olympic marathon.”

As I hobbled along on my crutches, supported by them like a modern-day Hercules, the thunderous cheers of the “incredible” crowd echoed in my ears. But it wasn’t just their encouragement that propelled me toward the finish line. It was the indomitable spirit of my one and only, Charlie Thuillier, who stood as a beacon of strength, motivating me to push through the pain and keep running.

“At every mile, she found herself thinking, ‘Okay, just keep running until I see Charlie again.’ What also drove her was the fear that if she stopped, she would constantly wonder, ‘Could I have run one more mile?’ and not being able to shake off that question.”

Next up for Rose is navigating the aisle during her wedding ceremony. However, when she playfully hinted that her fiance might need to accommodate her crutches, Charlie came up with an excellent retort.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d put it this way: “Regardless of whether Rosie is using crutches, a wheelchair, or even a scooter, her presence is what truly matters.”
