READY EDDIE?

As an avid fan of gripping narratives and captivating performances, I am utterly thrilled by the upcoming slate of TV shows and movies that are set to grace our screens this year.

Stepping off the glamour of ‘Cabaret’ on Broadway, multiple award-winner Eddie Redmayne takes on an enigmatic role in the upcoming Sky drama, “The Day of the Jackal.” For those who remember, this title echoes the modern reinterpretation of Frederick Forsyth’s 1971 novel, which was previously brought to life by Fred Zinnemann in the 1973 film with Edward Fox. The new television adaptation by Ronan Bennett is slated for release on November 7 and sets the story against a contemporary political backdrop. In this tale, the elusive assassin known as the Jackal is doggedly pursued by a determined British intelligence officer, portrayed by Lashana Lynch from ‘No Time to Die.’ Additionally, the cast includes Ursula Corbero from ‘Money Heist’ and ‘Game of Thrones’ veterans Charles Dance and Richard Dormer. The trailer hints at ten thrilling episodes filled with suspense as Redmayne and Lynch engage in a high-stakes game of cat-and-mouse.

GREEN LIGHT

Approximately three years after the debut of “Squid Game“, the South Korean dystopian thriller about a lethal survival game, is returning for another round. The initial series made headlines at award shows with record-breaking viewership and critical praise for its commentary on social class struggles and capitalism, as well as its graphic depictions of violence and despair. A highly anticipated teaser trailer rekindles the suspense from the first season, leaving viewers wondering about the fate of the characters and hinting that the brutal competition continues. The chilling sound of terrified screams echoes as green-suited figures race along a track, with masked game masters questioning, “Three years have passed. Would you like to play again?” Netflix has confirmed that not only will season two be released on December 25, but also that a final season is planned for release in 2025.

PIERPOINT PRESSURE

Following her portrayal of Amy Winehouse in the biopic “Back to Black”, actress Marisa Abela will take center stage in season 3 of “Industry”. The trailer hints at the love interests and mysterious past of her character Yasmin. Additionally, Kit Harington from “Game of Thrones” is featured as a CEO of a green energy company, competing with Harry Lawtey’s Robert Spearing for both power and Yasmin’s affections. The eight-episode series will debut in the US on 11 August and is expected to air on BBC1 and iPlayer later this year. Get ready for more stories of unbridled ambition, friendship corruption, and steamy moments as these ambitious traders strive to succeed in the world of finance.

START YOUR ENGINES…

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve learned Netflix has chosen November 29 for the premiere of “Senna,” a gripping six-part Brazilian drama about the life of the legendary Formula One driver, Ayrton Senna. Gabriel Leone, who portrayed Alfonso de Portago in Michael Mann’s film “Ferrari” last year, steps into the iconic role of Senna this time around. I can hardly wait to witness his performance!
