HORSES FOR COURSES

As a film enthusiast with a penchant for spy thrillers, I am positively thrilled about the return of “Slow Horses”! The fourth series promises to be just as gripping and suspenseful as its predecessors, given the stellar cast led by Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb. The early screening at BFI Southbank is an added bonus that I wouldn’t want to miss for anything. It’s not every day one gets a chance to watch an episode before anyone else!

As a longtime fan of spy thrillers, I am absolutely thrilled by the news that a new trailer for series four of “Slow Horses” has been released! Having followed the MI5 rejects, or the “Slow Horses,” since the first season, I can’t wait to see how their investigations into an explosion in London will unfold. The suspense is palpable as Kristin Scott Thomas’s character, Diane Taverner, warns of a critical threat, and Gary Oldman’s Jackson Lamb drops a mysterious death within the team. With the fourth series set for release on 4 September, I am beyond excited to have the opportunity to attend an early screening at BFI Southbank on Monday 2 September. Not only will I get to see the first episode of series four before anyone else, but I’ll also be able to participate in a Q+A with some of the cast – what an incredible experience! If more tickets become available, I highly recommend checking out the link and grabbing one for yourself. This is definitely not an opportunity to miss for fans of the genre!

A NEW SHERIFF IN TOWN

Two years following its highly praised debut, the series Sherwood is set to make a comeback for a second season. Starring David Morrissey, this crime drama will resume airing on BBC starting Sunday, 25 August, with the second episode following the next day. The remaining episodes are scheduled for Sundays and Mondays thereafter. Unlike its initial series, which was set in the mid-2000s, the upcoming season will unfold in current times, as suggested by the latest trailer. Once again, tales of gangs, rivalries, and deceit take center stage, with a new sheriff of Nottingham playing a significant role.

CURIOUS CATE

This autumn, one of the highly-awaited streaming series is “Disclaimer,” a psychological thriller produced by Alfonso Cuarón, who won an Oscar for directing both “Gravity” and “Roma.” Starring Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kine, the seven-episode show premieres on Apple TV+ on October 11th, following a grand premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September. Adapted from the same-titled novel, the series portrays an accomplished journalist (Blanchett) whose past of unmasking others’ misdeeds catches up with her when she receives a troubling parcel through the mail. The intriguing trailer also showcases other cast members such as Lesley Manville, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Louis Partridge.

RETURN OF THE RINGS

Get ready to revisit Middle-earth this summer! The second season of “The Lord of the Rings: the Rings of Power” is coming to Amazon Prime Video on August 29th. Critics noted a lack of action in the first season, but the new trailer promises more battle scenes, power struggles among leaders, and a chilling glimpse into the sinister Sauron’s new guise as “The Lord of Gifts,” Annatar. Devoted “LotR” fans can look forward to plenty of ancient lore, wise trees, and, naturally, grand battles.
