At Starry Studio, the game “Once Human” offers a survival sandbox shooting experience with an intriguing depth. Survival goes beyond the necessities of consuming cooked meals and drinking clean water. Customization extends past unlocking recipes as well. Although drops from missions and world activities might seem sufficient, crafting plays a pivotal role.
Here are several things you should know to maximize your survival experience.
Weight Watching
In survival games, various factors are important for your character’s wellbeing, including being well-fed and hydrated for at least 20 minutes without any reductions, preserving your mental health, and managing your weight. Weight plays a less recognized role but significantly impacts several aspects of your character’s performance.
Using Presets in Building
If you prefer a swift solution over the intricacies of base-building, the Presets tab in the Build menu is worth exploring. To access it, press the key “B,” right-click to open the menu, and then navigate to “House Blueprints.” In this section, you’ll find two categories: “Drafts” and “Presets.” The latter includes various pre-designed structures like a Simple Villa, Survival Cabin, Small Tower, and even an Opulent Villa. For those who enjoy mobility, there’s also a Travel Trailer option for a house on wheels. An advantage of these presets is that you can construct them alongside your existing base within your territory, making expansion smoother. Ensure you have the required materials before building.
Moving Your Base
If you find it necessary to transfer your base for any reason, be it accessing vital resources or just seeking a new neighborhood, there’s an uncomplicated solution. Navigate to the desired new location, then access the Build menu by pressing “Z.” This feature enables you to effortlessly move your entire base to its new home. It proves particularly useful when farming a specific resource and avoiding frequent trips between your base and the source.
Copying Other Players’ Bases
If you’re fond of another player’s base, you can easily replicate it by following these steps. First, make your way to their territory. Then, open the Build menu using the key “B”. Next, navigate to the Blueprints tab under Drafts and choose “Save Blueprint”. Don’t forget that you’ll need the necessary permissions to save someone else’s base design before you can proceed.
Upgrading Mods
Modifications (mods) significantly enhance the capabilities of gear and weapons by offering extra advantages such as increased damage or protection against status effects. To upgrade these mods, you’ll require Energy Link and materials derived from dismantling other mods. This process contributes to fine-tuning your character build for optimal performance.
Recommended Deviations
In battles, deviants might appear to be the most advantageous, but they truly shine when it comes to resource collection. The Digby Boy, with a possibility of appearing from any ore deposit (Silver being the most common), will mine ore for you as you explore. Similarly, the Logging Beaver, which may drop near the Mayor’s Market, will gather wood in the same manner. Both are excellent choices and if their conditions for containment are met, their power and mood will recover more quickly, enabling frequent usage. Additionally, you can have multiple instances of the same deviant, enhancing your resource gathering capabilities even further.
Memetic Specialization
At specific achievement marks, you’ll gain access to Memetic Specializations. You can find them in the same menu where you unlock Memetics and Cradle enhancements, located on the upper right side. These specializations are randomly selected. After making your pick, it stays chosen until the end of the season, with a limit of five resets. Considering your situation, consider Portable Rainwater Collection, Backpack Expansion, Stardust Regulator, Supplies Workbench: Ammo Factory, and Portable Fridge as popular choices.
Easy Sanity Restoration
Another option: The Compost Bin is worth considering within this field of study as it transforms rotten food from your stockpile into mushrooms. Why does this matter? You can subsequently prepare Roasted Mushrooms, an effective means to replenish Energy and Sanity. While mushrooms are also found in nature, having a consistent source becomes especially useful when you’re engaged elsewhere. Alternatively, maintain a sufficient quantity of Beets for the production of Sugar, essential for crafting Sanity Gummies.
Changing Appearance
If you’d like to enhance your appearance or adjust your weight without enduring harsh diets, consider using the Floor Mirror in your game. This item can be found under Furnishing Items in the Build menu and is already unlocked from the start. Once placed, it grants you the ability to modify various aspects of your character’s appearance. However, there is a catch – you will need a Renaming Card to use it, which can only be obtained using premium currency. At present, there isn’t an alternative way to acquire one for free.
Buying Blueprints
Instead of obtaining Blueprint Fragments solely by opening Mystical Chests, you have the option to obtain them from the Wish Machine as well. However, using the Wish Machine involves spending Starchrom for a random chance at getting the desired Blueprints. Although you can also buy Blueprints directly from the Wish Machine by pressing G, this comes with a higher price tag. This method is beneficial if you’re searching for specific Blueprints and prefer not to rely on the luck of the draw using the gacha system.
Farming Starchrom
As a gamer, I’d describe Starchrom as being quite valuable in the game, yet thankfully not too difficult to obtain. You can grab some from Prime War activities marked on the world map, but be prepared for a challenge. Alternatively, you can complete Season Goals or even earn them as rewards from the free tier of the Battle Pass. Additionally, clearing objectives in the Journey menu will net you some Starchrom as well. Every bit counts towards your progress!
Repairing Random Weapons
Have you ever pondered, as I have, about the necessity of creating weapons and armor when there’s an abundance of valuable finds in the world? Yet, there are compelling reasons to engage in crafting. Your acquired items will degrade over time and require maintenance which isn’t feasible since they aren’t actually yours (a reality of scavenging). While you can make use of discovered items, focus on enhancing your crafted weapons and armor for the future.
Farming Acid
In the progression of the game, Acid is a vital material that will come in great use later on. You’ll need it to craft Tier 4 and 5 equipment. While it can be obtained from higher-level enemies quite frequently, especially from Silos, you’ll still find yourself requiring a substantial amount. The effectiveness of using a Water Pump to gather more in polluted areas is debated, but having one as a backup isn’t the worst idea.
