One Character Could Shift the Balance in Avengers vs. New Avengers Showdown!

As a die-hard cinema enthusiast, let me tell you from my perspective, the Avengers are never quite on the same wavelength in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the movie “The Avengers,” these superheroes have more than enough reasons to dislike each other, and things improve for a while before they’re at odds again. The team finally splits up in “Captain America: Civil War,” and without a united force to safeguard Earth in “Avengers: Infinity War,” the odds are almost insurmountable. Realizing their mistakes, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes gather one last time in “Avengers: Endgame” to set things right, but once the conflict ends, most of them part ways, leaving a profound emptiness behind.

Without a supportive alliance, several MCU characters like Spider-Man and Doctor Strange have had no choice but to confront Avenger-scale perils solo. It’s not until the finale of “Captain America: Brave New World” that someone decides to rally a team. However, Sam Wilson doesn’t manage to assemble everyone before Valentina Allegra de Fontaine publicly declares the New Avengers are active. Now, both factions find themselves at odds, and another character could potentially be lurking in the background to exploit the situation.

Sam Wilson’s Team and the New Avengers May Have Some Competition in the MCU

In the finale of “Thunderbolts,” I step forward alongside my New Avengers comrades, embracing our destiny as Earth’s guardians. For a solid year, we deliver commendable performances, handling threats with skill and determination. As the film concludes, we’re shown in the post-credits scene, sporting new suits and radiating readiness for future challenges.

However, an unsettling wave of self-doubt creeps in when we learn that Sam is considering trademarking the name “Avengers.” Our confidence wavers, and I can’t help but feel a pang of unease. Bucky, in particular, expresses his discontent due to our disagreements over this matter. These discussions with Sam have grown so tense that it feels like our friendship is strained, if not broken entirely.

Contrarily, Sam appears quite confident in his abilities as he strives to rebuild the Avengers team. He taps Joaquin Torres as his initial recruit, and while the identities of the rest of his team are yet unknown, Sam is certain he has enough powerful allies to assemble a formidable lineup. However, even with all preparations, Sam isn’t prepared for the challenge posed by another MCU character who thinks he’s got what it takes to lead Earth’s strongest heroes: Ikaris.

The main character in the eternal race, known as Ikaris, boasts extraordinary strength, speed, and resilience that surpass even those of super-soldiers. He is also known for his grandiose statements, such as expressing his belief in leading the Avengers. The other Eternals mock Ikaris when he discloses his ambition, but their underestimation proves detrimental. Ikaris betrays his allies by attempting to aid a Celestial in the destruction of Earth. Although Ikaris later realizes his mistakes and flies towards the sun, it appears he could withstand such an ordeal, making him a significant danger if he’s still alive.

The Avengers Could Use an Eternal on Their Side in Doomsday

In the epic saga of Avengers: Doomsday, it’s clear that Ikaris, whether he assembles his own squad or attempts to commandeer an existing one, is bound to be a formidable force. The New Avengers and Sam’s team might need to put their differences aside to prevent being overwhelmed by the Eternal. If someone manages to reach him before he causes too much destruction, Ikaris could turn out to be an exceptional addition.

Considering Sentry is offline after Thunderbolts, Ikaris is one of the rare characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe who can rival Sentry’s alter-ego. Doctor Doom might struggle against such formidable power.

The Avengers could potentially aggravate Ikaris to the point where he might ally with Doom, but they’re not exactly swimming in alternatives. Since neither Steve Rogers nor Tony Stark are expected to make a surprise appearance, it seems like everyone will have to engage in the imminent battle featured in the upcoming Avengers films without them.

Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on May 1, 2026.
