One Chicago Shows Delayed: Why No New Episodes Tonight & When They’ll Finally Return

On April 30, you won’t find new episodes of “One Chicago” airing. The break is causing some frustration since it’s one of several short pauses the franchise has had lately. To make matters worse, the previous episodes ended on a thrilling note, making this week’s absence even more irritating. The latest season of “Chicago Med” concluded with Sharon and Maggie at odds due to an upcoming nurses’ strike, which promises to be a compelling storyline that challenges their friendship. Meanwhile, Severide is delving into an old fire case that involves Kidd on “Chicago Fire”.

At the close of the episode, I found myself disclosing to Severide that I harbored suspicions about my older sister being responsible for the fire that had struck me years prior. On a different note, Mouch proposed that Hermann should pursue Pascal’s vacant position. Lastly, in an intriguing turn of events, Chicago PD season 12 delved into Cook’s narrative as he navigated working with a confidential informant for the first time. It’s truly disheartening to know that we’ll have to endure this break before finding out where these stories lead next.

Why There’s No New One Chicago Episodes Tonight (April 30, 2025)

The Franchise Is Airing Reruns

On April 30th, instead of airing fresh episodes, “One Chicago” will be showing repeats on NBC. More specifically, they’ll be airing episode 6 from each year’s season. Since these are re-broadcasts from the same week, it’s unlikely that these reruns have any connection to future episodes. Instead, “One Chicago” is providing an opportunity for viewers to get up to speed by showing encore performances of these episodes before resuming new broadcasts the following week.

Given that fact, it’s not surprising that the show is playing repeats tonight. Typically, programs go on a brief break around late April or early May. This tradition allows the network to have enough episodes to run until mid-May, which is when most network TV series conclude their seasons for the summer.

This Is Only A Short Hiatus

Luckily, the break between episodes is minimal. The next installments of Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD are scheduled for May 7, 2025. This means viewers won’t have to wait much longer to find out what happens next on each series. It seems that there won’t be any more breaks, and new episodes will air weekly until the season finales.

Taking a week off can be annoying, but it gives viewers a chance to catch up on missed episodes from this season. NBC will air just one rerun per series, however, all previously broadcasted episodes can be streamed on Peacock. If you’re interested in revisiting past seasons, those are also available. So, before the procedurals come back with brand new episodes at the start of May, it’s quite convenient to watch or rewatch any episode you like.

As a devoted cinephile, I’m eagerly anticipating the summer wrap-up of all three shows in the “One Chicago” universe. This means we’re in for some thrilling narratives that will undoubtedly end on heart-stopping cliffhangers! In the case of “Chicago Med”, the nurses’ strike saga continues, with a sick-out leaving the hospital understaffed. Despite this challenge, Archer and Frost are ready to put their skills to the test in a friendly wager – who can discharge their patient first? This upcoming tale promises to be a delightful mix of tension and levity.

In the 20th episode of Chicago Fire’s thirteenth season, Kidd and Severide will intertwine their personal and professional lives as they meet the potential mother of the baby they wish to adopt. Simultaneously, a specialist in workplace efficiency will scrutinize Firehouse 51. This assessment could pose a challenge for Pascal, given the already strained staffing situation at the firehouse and Mouch’s advice for Herrmann to apply for the same position.

Ultimately, I’ll be part of the team wrapping up the One Chicago trilogy with what seems to be one of the darkest cases for Chicago PD. A car accident I witnessed turns out not to be a simple tragedy, but rather an investigation leading us to uncover a sex trafficking ring. This harrowing case might link back to the corruption Reid has been involved in, under the guise of maintaining law and order on our streets.
