As a die-hard fan of suspenseful thrillers and shark attack movies, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the upcoming sequel to “Under Paris”! Having watched the original multiple times, I can confidently say that it was a unique blend of action, horror, and a dash of humor that kept me on the edge of my seat. The idea of a massive shark terrorizing the iconic city of Paris was both terrifying and intriguing, and I eagerly await seeing where the sequel will take us.
This summer, Netflix delved into the shark attack genre with a movie titled “Under Paris“, an unexpected blockbuster for their streaming platform. Set in France, this film portrays the chaos caused by a colossal shark that has navigated its way into the Seine river during the World Triathlon Championships being held in Paris.
Under the title “Paris,” Netflix experienced a massive triumph, ranking second among non-English language films in their streaming history, trailing only behind 2022’s “Troll.” Given such an impressive performance, it’s hardly unexpected that Netflix has greenlit a sequel to “Under Paris,” and pre-production activities might start soon.
It’s been confirmed that “Under Paris 2” is being developed for Netflix, with director Xaiver Gens set to continue his role as director. Actors Bérénice Bejo and Nassim Lyes will reprise their roles in the sequel. Initially, it was Bérénice Bejo who suggested that filming for “Under Paris 2” might start as early as the second half of 2025. However, according to Variety’s report, the movie is still in its early stages and there’s a possibility that production may not commence until 2026 at the earliest.
For a sequel to “Under Paris“, we can expect a significant shift from its original narrative. While it will continue to revolve around giant sharks in France, the subsequent storyline is likely to diverge significantly from its predecessor.
The initial film was centered on a grand sports spectacle happening in Paris, which coincided with the 2024 Summer Olympics. However, it’s highly unlikely we’ll see a repeat of that plot, considering the Olympics have already concluded.

To brainstorm ideas for sequels, you’d probably want to revisit the final scene in the film “Under Paris,” which transported the story deep into the city’s legendary catacombs. Returning to this location, where the title’s truth is embodied, presents numerous opportunities. The catacombs are rich with story potential and could enable Genz to further emphasize the horror aspects typical of shark attack movies.
Regardless of the circumstances, it’s been announced that there will be a sequel to the movie titled “Under Paris“. It’ll be intriguing to observe if French movie enthusiasts express greater enthusiasm for this new installment compared to their initial reaction towards the original. Although “Under Paris” was globally successful, its response was most critical in its native France. In fact, filmmaker Genz has openly shared his struggles to secure funding for the film within France.
Currently, there isn’t much specific information available on the upcoming movie titled “Under Paris 2“. We’ll make sure to share any updates with you promptly once credible news becomes available.
