One of the Best Crime Shows of All Time Is Streaming Free (After Being Unavailable for Decades)

For several decades, one of the most revolutionary and well-received television series in the crime drama genre remained elusive for online viewing – “Homicide: Life on the Street”. This captivating show left viewers spellbound, garnered Emmys, and consistently tested the limits of network television during its seven-season stint in the 1990s. Set in Baltimore, Maryland, this drama series paved the way for HBO’s “The Wire” by nearly a decade, demonstrating to future TV producers that there was far more potential to explore within police procedurals than many initially thought.

As a devoted cinephile, I’ve always been captivated by the gripping stories of “Homicide: Life on the Street,” particularly Andre Braugher’s exceptional portrayal that left an indelible mark on television. For far too long, this masterpiece seemed to have vanished from the realm of streaming platforms. However, last year, it graced our screens once more on Peacock, offering a new generation of viewers their introduction to its raw and compelling narrative. Now, barely a year later, a wonderful twist: the entire series is now available for free streaming to everyone, making it accessible to all who share my passion for quality television.

Come June’s beginning, Tubi expanded its free content by including all seven seasons of “Homicide: Life on the Street,” as well as the 2000 sequel film titled “Homicide: The Movie” (labeled as Season 8 on Tubi). As a result, viewers can now stream the entire series from start to finish without any need for a streaming subscription. Quite a change compared to only a year ago!
