As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must admit that the announcement of Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault has piqued my interest. The original game was a delightful blend of RPG, shopkeeping simulator, and dungeon crawler, offering a unique gaming experience that I thoroughly enjoyed.

As an analyst, I was quick to spot the announcement during today’s PC Gaming Showcase Most Wanted – a sequel to the captivating blend of RPG, shopkeeping simulator, and dungeon crawler from 2018, Moonlighter, is in the works. The creators, 11 bit studios (Poland) and Digital Sun (Spain), unveiled Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault, slated for release in 2025 on Xbox, PC, and PlayStation 5 platforms.

In Moonlighter 2, our hero Will, from the original game, returns more adept at combat and negotiation. This resourceful merchant is eager for thrilling escapades and wealth, venturing independently into dangerous crypts to gather prized treasures. Upon his return, the shop in Moonlighter 2 becomes a haven of comfort as Will focuses on negotiating optimal prices for his merchandise. Players can personalize their store with eye-catching decorations, but they’ll need to delve deep into the crypts to acquire valuable loot to fund these improvements.

One significant change between Moonlighter and its earlier version lies in the transition of the art direction. The initial game showcased a stunning pixel art design with a top-down perspective, whereas Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault has evolved into a 3D combat setting. However, even with this modification in style, the color scheme and character designs echo those from the original Moonlighter, maintaining the same appeal and ambiance as before.

Javier Gimenez, CEO of Digital Sun, stated that Moonlighter, our first game, was a significant milestone for us, symbolizing the expansion of our team’s capabilities. Five years later, Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault is a testament to our growth and learning experience. All our skills are being poured into making this new game not only improved but also filled with more endearing details throughout,” explained Javier Gimenez.

Players will enjoy enhancing Tresna’s village growth by patronizing local establishments, improving Will’s equipment, and discovering new prospects that foster the prosperity of this village. As the villagers thrive, they’ll have more funds to spend at your store!

2025 marks the planned release of Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. Although the first Moonlighter was accessible through Xbox Game Pass, there’s no official word yet if its sequel will be part of the subscription service. Publisher 11 bit studios has an agreement with Xbox to bring some of their games to Game Pass, but it’s not a universal deal as titles like The Thaumaturge and The Invincible didn’t make the cut. Games such as Creatures of Ava and Frostpunk 2 have been introduced to Game Pass on launch day, but it remains to be seen if Moonlighter 2 will follow suit.
