The surge in popularity of deckbuilder games akin to roguelikes reached new heights post the launch of Slay the Spire, often hailed as a genre icon. In the wake of its release, numerous developers have endeavored to capture the essence of Slay the Spire. Although some have achieved partial success, only a handful are seen as genuine competitors in the realm of Mega Crit’s roguelike deckbuilding. One exceptional alternative is Monster Train, developed by Shiny Shoe and published by Good Shepherd Entertainment. Monster Train shares similar mechanics with Slay the Spire, but introduces a distinct spin to the genre, making it distinctive and captivating. Despite roguelike deckbuilders offering endless gameplay, many players have exhausted the content that Monster Train provides.
If you’re among those gamers eagerly anticipating something following “Monster Train“, you’ll be delighted to hear the news! Shiny Shoe, in collaboration with Devolver Digital and Big Fan Games, is embarking on their next venture. Notably, Shiny Shoe’s upcoming project is a sequel to the widely praised “Monster Train“. What makes this even more exciting is that you won’t have to wait long to experience it yourself!
In a recent announcement, Shiny Shoe unveiled a trailer for the upcoming sequel of “Monster Train”, exciting fans with a sneak peek. What’s more, enthusiasts can already experience a bit of the roguelike deckbuilding action, as a demo for it is available on Steam. The creators assure us that “Monster Train 2” will surpass its predecessor in terms of scale and quality, while retaining beloved mechanics and introducing fresh elements.
One engaging feature of “Monster Train 2” is the introduction of five unique factions, two of which can be experienced in the demo version. Each faction offers distinct gameplay, providing different benefits through their skills and tactics. In this game, players will utilize these factions to combat the Titans who have seized Heaven, guiding their trains across the realms of Hell, Heaven, and the Abyss.
In the sequel of Monster Train, known as Monster Train 2, the three-story vertical battlefield remains. Players must guard their pyres on these levels to avoid defeat. Fresh card types like Room and Equipment cards will introduce some alterations to the gameplay. These cards offer enhancements and advantages to players’ units and trains.
In the follow-up game, Monster Train, a frequently demanded feature – Endless Mode – has been introduced. This mode offers an unrelenting test for players as they strive for their limits. The more you progress, the harder it gets, providing opportunities to accumulate impressive scores and challenge your friends with them.
No matter where you adventure, The Covenant Outpost serves as the central meeting place for players. Following each expedition, players are transported back here to collect rewards, advance the plot, and engage with various amenities such as Pyre Hearts, Dimensional Challenges, train customization options, a logbook, daily challenges, and Celestial Alcoves. With each outing, players grow stronger, enabling them to explore deeper into the game.
As a fervent admirer, I’m eagerly awaiting any news about the release date of Monster Train 2. The only hint we have so far is that it’s arriving soon! To help quell our excitement in the meantime, a demo has been made available to give us a sneak peek into what we can expect from this highly-anticipated sequel to the roguelike deckbuilding game.
