One of the best survival games just got a huge graphical overhaul

In simpler terms, the highly-acclaimed survival game, The Long Dark, has just received some impressive visual enhancements, which can now be enjoyed on personal computers.

According to Hinterland Studio’s description, this free update brings several visual enhancements to the rugged Canadian landscape.

You can see an overview of the different enhancements in the video below:

The update has been released for PC, Mac, and Linux systems, while the console version will be available sometime in June.

Of course, not every visual upgrade is present across all platforms due to the fact that newer consoles boast more capabilities compared to older systems. Below you’ll find a list of the enhancements exclusive to each platform:

– Console A: Feature X, Feature Y, and Feature Z
– Console B: Feature W, Feature V, and Feature U
– Console C: Feature T, Feature S, and Feature R

Each console offers its own unique set of improvements, making the gaming experience tailored to their specific hardware capabilities.

  • Colored Shadows: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, Linux, Mac, Luna

Playing all these fresh features on your PC significantly boosts the game’s requirements. Although we don’t have comprehensive specifications yet, the developers suggest that a graphics card like the RTX 3060, coupled with a 3GHz CPU and 32GB of RAM, should manage to run The Long Dark smoothly at 1440p resolution with a steady 60 frames per second when all new settings are turned on.

For more than ten years, The Long Dark has been continually developed and improved. It was initially introduced as an early access game on Steam back in 2014. Later, it made history by being one of the initial games to debut through the Xbox Game Preview program on Xbox One in 2015.

In 2017, the game “The Long Dark” was fully launched on Xbox, PC, and PlayStation platforms, and by 2021, it had sold more than 5 million copies worldwide.

Moving forward, Hinterland Studio is now developing a follow-up titled Blackfrost: The Long Dark 2, with plans for an early access release in the year 2026.
