One of the biggest PlayStation games is finally coming to Windows PC, but there’s some bad news for fans

What you need to know

  • PlayStation Studios and Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 first launched exclusively for PlayStation 5 on Oct. 20, 2023.
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is coming to Windows PC on Jan. 30, 2025.
  • The port is being handled with assistance from Nixxes Software, a PlayStation team specializing in PC versions of games.
  • Insomniac Games also confirmed that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will not be getting any story DLC, unlike the original Marvel’s Spider-Man.

As a tech enthusiast who’s been eagerly awaiting the arrival of A-list console exclusives on PC, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and disbelief at the rapid pace at which PlayStation Studios is bringing their games to our platform. Just a little over two years after its initial release on the PlayStation 5, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set to swing into PCs in January 2025 – a speed that would make even the web-slinging hero himself green with envy!

The iconic Marvel web-slinger is returning to PC next year.

At New York Comic Con, it was announced by PlayStation and Marvel Games (through the PlayStation Blog) that Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is slated for release on Windows PC on January 30, 2025. The porting of this game is being managed in collaboration with Nixxes Software, a skilled team who have also been responsible for the PC adaptations of several other PlayStation games such as Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Ghost of Tsushima.

You can check out the trailer celebrating the upcoming PC launch of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 below:

Julian Huijbregts, from Nixxes’ community management team, shares that collaborating with Insomniac and Marvel Games to launch Spider-Man Remastered and Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PC has been a wonderful journey for us at Nixxes.

We can’t wait to carry on this partnership and bring the highly anticipated Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to PC, boasting an array of upgraded features such as advanced ray-tracing options. This will allow players with different setups and configurations to enjoy a more immersive experience. Keep an eye out for further information about these features and recommended system specifications as we get closer to the launch date.

As an analyst, I can share that alongside this recent news, the PlayStation Blog press release also verifies that the development team has no further narrative content in store for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. This implies that unlike the initial game, we may not expect any story-based downloadable content additions to the sequel.

In the wake of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 unfolds with Peter Parker and Miles Morales juggling their individual lives while maintaining their superhero duties. Simultaneously, Kraven the Hunter aims to transform New York City into his personal hunting ground.

One of the fastest additions yet to the PlayStation library on PC

Contrary to the typical pattern where large single-player PlayStation games come out first on consoles before appearing on PC, this isn’t happening with this title.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 debuted for PlayStation 5 on October 20, 2023, and has since sold 11 million copies by April 2024. The upcoming PC version of this game is expected within a year, making it one of the quickest expansions to the collection of PlayStation Studios games playable on Windows PC.

Speaking of God of War Ragnarök, it originally debuted on PlayStation consoles in November 2022, but didn’t come to PC until September 2024.

Although it may be disheartening for fans to learn that there won’t be a new story for the DLC, rest assured that Insomniac Games remains active. Right now, their team is fully engaged in developing Marvel’s Wolverine.
