One of the Worst Resident Evil Games Might Be Making a Comeback

As a seasoned survivor of the zombie-infested apocalypse that is the Resident Evil franchise, I must admit my initial skepticism towards the return of “Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City”. Having braved through countless nights with the T-Virus mutants and the Umbrella Corporation’s minions, I find it hard to fathom that this particular title could offer anything new or exciting.

It’s possible that one of the most critically panned games in the Resident Evil series might become available for purchase again soon. While Capcom has experienced a significant comeback with its survival-horror games recently, things weren’t always so rosy. Before the releases of Resident Evil VII, Resident Evil Village, and several modern remakes, Capcom struggled with this franchise. Now, it seems that a game from that period could be re-released.

Lately, it’s been noticed that Capcom is altering the metadata for Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City on Steam. Originally released during the era of Xbox 360 and PS3, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City was a spin-off with a cooperative focus in the Resident Evil series. Previously, Capcom took down the game from Steam due to problems stemming from it being associated with the Games for Windows Live program. Now, Capcom has made a minor adjustment to the title, potentially hinting at its return to Steam.

It’s exciting to think that Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City may soon become more accessible, but this might not necessarily increase its popularity. On Metacritic, the game has a dismal 52/100 aggregate review score, one of the lowest in the entire Resident Evil series. The users’ opinions are no better, with an average user score of just 4.9/10 on the platform. Regardless of these low scores, making the game available for purchase on Steam would still be beneficial from a preservation perspective.

If you haven’t encountered the game titled “Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City,” here’s a peek at its retro launch trailer and brief overview that follows.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City

In September 1998, Raccoon City is under siege by Umbrella Corporation’s lethal T-virus epidemic. To hide their tracks, Umbrella commands a special task force into Raccoon City for two purposes: to erase all traces of the outbreak and to eliminate any survivors. Concurrently, the US government has sealed off the city and sent in their own group of highly trained Spec-Ops soldiers to locate the origin of this baffling contagion.

Prepare to join Umbrella Security Service, taking on all forces that threaten Raccoon City. Engage with terrifying enemies from Resident Evil such as hunters and lickers while traversing the city streets in pursuit of key figures including Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy.

One thing is for sure, in Raccoon City, all roads lead to hell.”
