One-Off

The nine-episode comedy series “Agatha All Along,” a Marvel spinoff from “WandaVision,” has reached its conclusion. This humorous show revolves around Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn), who despite her lack of magical powers, navigates a series of trials on the Witches’ Road with her coven, consisting of potions witch Jennifer Kale (Sasheer Zamata), protection witch Alice Wu-Gulliver (Ali Ahn), divination witch Lilia Calderu (Patti LuPone), and teen Billy Kaplan/Maximoff (Joe Locke). Disney submitted “Agatha” as a comedy series instead of a miniseries during the awards season, hinting at potential future installments.

However, LuPone has revealed that there are no plans for season 2 of “Agatha All Along”, as per her recent interview. The talented actress who won a Tony and was nominated for an Emmy stated that the series creator, Jac Schaeffer, informed her that “Agatha” is similar to “WandaVision” in being a standalone production.

LuPone stated to TheWrap that there won’t be a second season. Schaeffer visited her trailer and informed her, “Patti, Lilia is going to die,” to which she replied, “But I wanted a second season.” Schaeffer responded, “I don’t do second seasons.

She stated that they proposed another season of ‘WandaVision‘ for her, but she declined due to having too much writing to handle. Instead, she does standalone projects, and she genuinely hopes and prays for the opportunity to collaborate with her again in the future because she’s truly magical.

In episode 7 titled “Death’s Hand in Mine,” Lilia LuPone’s character met her demise. She sacrificed herself to aid Agatha, Billy, and Jen in their escape from the Salem Seven. The episode further disclosed that Rio, Agatha’s former partner portrayed by Aubrey Plaza, is actually Death. He guided most of Agatha’s coven towards the afterlife, including Agatha herself, who perished in the second-last episode before reappearing as a ghost.

Hahn, who was nominated for a Golden Globe for playing the lead role, suggested that the show Agatha All Along might be concluded, but hinted that her age-old witch character could appear again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. (The series ended with Agatha, as a ghost, accompanying Billy on his quest to find his lost twin brother.)

She had expressed earlier that she was extremely pleased with how “Agatha All Along” concluded the storyline within it, according to Deadline. She added that everyone would be delighted to return for another installment in any role. Filming in Atlanta, Georgia, with a tiny cast on the set day after day was a profoundly impactful and transformative experience for her.

In 2021, after the hit series WandaVision, Schaeffer secured a three-year contract with Marvel Studios and Disney’s 20th Television to develop TV projects for Disney+ and shows for all platforms under 20th TV. This deal originally encompassed the spinoff series of WandaVision led by Paul Bettany, which was announced in 2022. However, Schaeffer chose to work on Agatha instead, as Terry Matalas, the executive producer of Star Trek: Picard, took charge of writing for the yet-unnamed Vision series.

Schaeffer stated to Script Mag that instead of wanting to spend more time with TV show characters as many people do, the excitement for him lies in guiding the audience on a captivating journey they’ll want to revisit week after week. This is also why he hasn’t created a multi-season series yet; he pours all his efforts into making each season compelling, presenting all his tricks in a limited series format, which has proven enjoyable so far.

All episodes of Agatha All Along are now available to stream on Disney+.
