One Piece Actor Spills The Beans on Season 2 Release Window (And Season 3 Details)

As a seasoned anime enthusiast who has journeyed through countless islands and battles with the Straw Hat Pirates, I can confidently say that the live-action adaptation of One Piece by Netflix is shaping up to be an extraordinary voyage. With Vincent Regan himself revealing that filming for Season 2 has wrapped up, it seems we’re sailing towards a return before the next Christmas!

For quite a while, numerous One Piece anime enthusiasts had doubts that a successful live-action adaptation was possible. However, Netflix delightfully disproved many skeptics with the first season of Eiichiro Oda’s live-action series causing a global sensation. Now, with filming for the next season underway in South Africa, an inhabitant of the Grand Line has let slip when fans might see the comeback of this unexpected success. Furthermore, the actor who is well-known within the anime world’s military also gave hints about what might follow after the second season.

At the Vienna Comic-Con, actor Vincent Regan, who portrayed Vice Admiral Garp in “One Piece”, revealed some insights about the potential return of the series on Netflix. He stated that he has returned from South Africa after filming season 2 and all his character’s actions for season 2 are complete. He added that they are finishing up the remaining filming within a month, suggesting that the show may be ready for Netflix before Christmas next year. However, showrunner Matt Owens did not provide any timeline during this year’s Netflix Geeked Week.

One Piece: Beyond Season 2

Regan didn’t just give a vague indication about when season two might air; he also shared details about the live-action adaptation of the Alabasta Arc in “One Piece”. Although fans had speculated that the desert setting could feature in the second season, creator Eiichiro Oda clarified that we would have to wait a bit longer for the Straw Hats to explore this arid region. Moreover, Vincent hinted at the possibility of not one but three seasons being required to fully portray this storyline, stating that they were likely to start filming season 3 soon, and it seemed that the Alabasta story arc would require two seasons. What he had seen of the designs, sketches, and filming suggested some exciting elements were in progress.

Although seasons three and four haven’t been officially announced yet, it seems plausible that Netflix might decide to extend the narrative of the live-action Going Merry crew, given that One Piece’s first season was unexpectedly successful. It resonated with fans of the original content, but also captivated general audiences who were unfamiliar with Monkey D. Luffy’s tale up until then. With the manga and anime progressing through the Straw Hats’ Final Saga, Netflix could potentially have numerous years of compelling stories at its disposal.

One Piece: What Happens in Season 2

Although the Netflix version won’t primarily focus on Alabasta in its second season, it’s still set to cover significant events from the One Piece series. Among the destinations that are planned for this season, expect to see Loguetown, Little Garden, Drum Island, and others. In addition to exploring new islands, the Straw Hat Pirates will also encounter potential crew members such as Tony Tony Chopper and Nico Robin. As of now, an actor has not been chosen for the role of the Straw Hats’ doctor, while Lera Abova has been cast for Nico Robin.
