As the anime adaptation of One Piece unfolds Kuma’s intriguing backstory, the manga is deep into the Elbaf Arc, which is the second arc within the Final Saga. Despite making fans wait for more than twenty years to reach this point, the narrative moves swiftly and we don’t get much time to explore the island before a significant battle erupts. Upon Luffy and his crew’s arrival at the island, two Holy Knights infiltrated it and encountered Loki. Failing to enlist Loki into their ranks, Shamrock and Gunko proceeded with their scheme to undermine Elbaf. They even summoned Sommers and Killingham onto the island. With Shamrock now departed from the scene, the remaining trio is executing their orders by targeting the children on the island first.
In Elbaf, the situation has never been grimmer, given that the Monster Trio continues to tend to Loki who’s severely wounded. Meanwhile, Gunko, one of the most enigmatic Holy Knights, is unveiling her hidden past. As this chapter concludes, we receive the most significant clue about Imu’s abilities. Imu, the world’s secret ruler, appears more menacing than any threat we have previously encountered.
One Piece’s Elbaf Arc Confirms Imu Is a God
Through offering up his own life as a guarantee, Gunko overcame Gaban, who was the right-hand man to the Pirate King. Although Sommers had been sliced into numerous pieces, he was still able to speak. Given that Sommers was immobilized and no longer regenerating, one might expect Gaban to easily defeat the other Holy Knights. However, with Colon’s life at stake, he could only yield. In a past memory, Gunko reminisces about Brook, with whom he had a bond similar to that of a father and daughter. The specifics of their history remain unclear.
Meanwhile, as Gunko intended to connect with Brook, suddenly Imu’s voice echoed mysteriously, taking control over her body. Gunko’s hair lengthened and her appearance became more foreboding than ever. As the chapter concluded, Imu hinted at revealing a god’s true power. Throughout the story so far, gods have been mentioned multiple times, but only Luffy seems to possess genuine divine powers. His Devil Fruit abilities aren’t merely symbolic; they bestow upon him unmatched capabilities. The legend of Nika dates back several centuries, even before the Void Century.
It’s possible that Imu, who has been speculated as the final antagonist in the series, could actually be another deity. Unlike other characters, Imu doesn’t seem boastful and the powers demonstrated in Chapter 1149, such as killing and possessing others from a distance, making them immortal, are abilities beyond human capabilities. Some believe that Imu might originate from the Void Century or even before that.
