The ongoing Elbaf Arc in One Piece sees our heroes squaring off against the Holy Knights, and things have become increasingly challenging. After the grueling battle at Egghead, the crew finds themselves up against some of the series’ toughest adversaries. The Holy Knights, currently the most formidable villain faction, boast impressive regenerative abilities. So far, all the Holy Knight members we’ve encountered in Elbaf have displayed Devil Fruit powers, with Shamrock being an exception – her sword absorbed a Devil Fruit instead. To make matters worse, they can regenerate from even the most severe wounds.
In essence, these antagonists possess an equivalent power to the Gorosei, making them a formidable force. The source of their limitless regeneration is yet to be revealed, but it certainly aids them in outmaneuvering their adversaries. This phenomenon was particularly evident in Elbaf, during clashes between Sommers, Gunko, and the crew, as well as the Giants. For instance, in Chapter 1148, Robin engaged in a one-on-one battle with Sommers, yet her powers proved insufficient against his regeneration. Surprisingly, Gaban appeared at the scene and swiftly severed Sommers’ hand in a single strike. Remarkably, Sommers was unable to regenerate from this wound, indicating that the villains have a significant vulnerability. The latest Chapter 1149 sheds light on what actually befell Sommers.
One Piece’s Gaban Easily Defeats Sommers
Gaban made a significant advancement in the current power system, possibly connected to Haki, enabling him to halt the healing abilities of the Holy Knights and the Gorosei. It’s plausible that he has previously clashed with someone wielding this power, explaining his knowledge of how to counter Sommers. In Chapter 1149, it’s apparent that Sommers is displeased by Gaban’s presence, sensing that the outcome wouldn’t be favorable for him. True to form, Gaban slices through Sommers, leaving the villain immobilized.
As a devoted fan, I must say, Sommers’ gruesome dismemberment should have sealed his fate, yet somehow, he clings to life mysteriously. Gaban demonstrated strength surpassing any Holy Knight on this island, and the odds were clearly in his favor. Yet, Gunko resorted to an underhanded tactic by aiming for Colon instead. With Future Sight, Gaban foresaw his son’s tragic demise, leading him to surrender without a fight. It’s heart-wrenching to see him lay down his arms and prepare to die to shield his son, but at the same time, it’s one of the most impressive uses of Observation Haki in the series – a skill that might rival Shanks himself!
It was understandable that we anticipated Gaban’s powers to surpass those of other characters previously encountered, yet uncovering the vulnerability of his regeneration capacity might be crucial for victory in this battle. Regrettably, Gaban has been defeated and seems incapacitated as of now. To add to our troubles, the enigmatic global ruler, Imu, appears to have seized control over Gunko’s body, and Elbaf’s predicament could worsen significantly if Luffy and his team don’t intervene promptly.
