The much-anticipated anime series One Piece made a triumphant comeback last weekend, astonishing fans by airing two consecutive episodes from the Egghead Arc and a fresh, thrilling installment of the Elbaf Arc. After a lengthy six-month wait, it appears that fans’ perseverance is being richly compensated with an abundance of fresh, engaging content all at once. The celebration, however, is only getting started as One Piece has also unveiled a vibrant new colored illustration to accompany the latest chapter in the manga, marking the anime’s comeback on multiple platforms.
In Chapter 1145 of One Piece, renowned animator and animation director for the series, Midori Matsuda, has added a vibrant new illustration. Known for her work on all three openings of the Wano Arc and the latest Gre4n Boyz opening in the Egghead Arc’s second part, this artwork shows the Straw Hat crew gathered enthusiastically around a couch in front of various televisions, each showing Luffy in Gear Five as seen on Egghead. It seems they are eagerly waiting for the newest episode, suggested by the nearby digital clock displaying the anime’s new late-night broadcast time.
One Piece Surprises Fans With New Colored Illustration of the Straw Hats
Over time, readers of Oda’s manga have come to eagerly anticipate his occasional color spreads. As the series progresses, Oda’s art style has significantly developed, with each color spread becoming increasingly elaborate and detailed. However, a recent colored illustration by Midori Matsuda is noteworthy for its charming details like subtle nods to One Piece‘s updated airing schedule and Luffy excitedly gesturing towards himself while watching himself on TV.
Instead of Eiichiro Oda drawing the color spread for a change, it’s one of the series animators, Midori Matsuda, who created it. This new illustration aligns better with the anime’s art style since Matsuda has also been the character designer for much of One Piece‘s animated version. In addition to this, Matsuda has worked on the charming eyecatchers in the recent episodes. Here’s hoping we get more illustrations from him soon. Overall, this new color spread has increased anticipation for the anime’s return and provided another poster-worthy piece for fans.
One Piece is available to read on Manga Plus and Viz Media.
