One Piece: Loki’s Lightning Powers Echo Enel and Big Mom’s Blunders

From his debut, Loki has emerged as one of the most enigmatic figures in the Elbaf Arc of One Piece, leaving fans eager to uncover details about his powers, skills, and whether his fearsome status is justified. Loki’s dramatic entrance, shackled by massive sea stone chains around Jewel Tree Adam, has only heightened anticipation for his formidable capabilities. Now that Luffy has almost broken Loki’s chains, viewers are eagerly watching to see the display of powers reminiscent of two unanticipated antagonists in One Piece.

In chapter 1142 of “One Piece,” Loki grabs his hammer Ragnir and strikes Jewel Tree Adam with it, creating a bolt of lightning that sparks a fire on Elbaf’s south side. This move exploits Elbaf’s two significant weaknesses. Fans have long suspected this ability in Loki, but the latest chapter verifies that he can indeed control lightning, making him similar to two iconic “One Piece” villains – Enel and Big Mom. While it remains to be seen what other abilities Loki possesses, his demonstrated control over lightning hints at a possible comedic downfall against Luffy, suggesting he may repeat the humorous mistakes of both Enel and Big Mom.

One Piece Calls Back to Enel and Big Mom with Loki’s Lightning Powers

Given that Loki’s ankle is still adorned with a sea stone cuff, it seems doubtful that the summoned lightning is connected to his own mysterious devil fruit abilities. Instead, it appears that the hammer Ragnir and the manner in which Hajruddin pleaded for Loki to stop wielding the hammer at the end of the last chapter suggest that the lightning that hit Elbaf was actually called forth by the hammer itself, rather than Loki’s devil fruit. This could possibly indicate that Ragnir might possess a devil fruit, similar to Shamrock’s sword Cerberus, although it remains uncertain as inanimate objects with devil fruits are quite uncommon in One Piece.

Intriguingly, if Ragnir possessed a Devil Fruit, it would resemble Big Mom’s powers, as she wields lightning attacks similar to Zeus, her abilities enhanced by her Soul-Soul Fruit. This sets Ragnir apart from Enel, who embodied electricity with his Logia Devil Fruit. Due to limited information about Ragnir’s abilities in One Piece, it’s challenging to accurately assess his power level for now. However, considering Loki’s history, he might be nearly as powerful as Shanks, making him a significant threat on par with a near-Emperor of the Sea should he face Luffy in the future.

Loki Could End up Making a Classic Mistake Against Luffy

Despite the fact that Loki still possesses the legendary devil fruit and may continue using his lightning powers against Luffy because he believes it was responsible for his father’s death, it is likely that this strategy will not be effective as long as Luffy remains encased in sea stone. However, there is a possibility that Loki might repeat a common mistake made by characters like Enel and Big Mom, who underestimated the effectiveness of lightning against rubber, which acts as an excellent insulator. Consequently, Loki may find himself at a disadvantage if he continues to rely solely on his lightning attacks without considering alternative strategies to defeat Luffy in One Piece.

In One Piece, Enel was the first to blunder on this point around two decades back, during Chapter 279, resulting in a popular meme. Similarly, Big Mom found herself repeating the same mistake at Onigashima in Chapter 1002, when she tried attacking Luffy with Zeus. The comic series has used this joke twice before and it appears another instance might be on the horizon, possibly catching up Loki off guard very soon.

Fans have picked up on this recurring theme, humorously depicted in the meme shared recently on X that resembles James Franco’s “First Time” meme but features Loki, Enel, and Big Mom instead. We can only hope that Loki’s response will be as amusing as Enel’s or even more so, although it seems One Piece‘s Elbaf Arc is about to become quite serious with a significant battle on the horizon.
