One Piece Season 2 Reveals Release Window (And Fans Might Be Disappointed)

Netflix’s Tudum delivered a long-anticipated moment for fans of the live-action adaptation of One Piece: Tony Tony Chopper, the crew’s doctor, has been unveiled in his CG form, with actress Mikaela Hoover portraying the reindeer in season two. Although Netflix’s special event showcased this significant reveal, fans may be disappointed to hear that they will have to wait a bit longer than anticipated to witness it again. During Netflix’s Geeked Week, showrunner Matt Owens declined to provide a specific date for the return of the live-action Straw Hat Pirates, and it appears he had a valid reason for doing so.

Regrettably, enthusiasts of “One Piece” may find themselves waiting longer than anticipated as Netflix’s Tudum has announced that season two won’t be released this year, but rather sometime in 2026. As for the specific month, Netflix hasn’t provided any details yet. In the meantime, fans can look forward to visiting places such as Drum Island, Loguetown, and Little Whiskey, among others, though the exact timing is still unclear. At least, there’s hope that January 2026 might bring some unexpected news. Since the first season aired in 2023, this means a wait of at least two years or more.

At Least We Saw Chopper

As an onlooker, I couldn’t help but feel a tinge of dismay when considering the delay in release, but the excitement quickly overtook as Tony Tony Chopper, the doctor aboard the Going Merry, was unveiled. This time around, Chopper will be a fully computer-generated character, which seems fitting given his ability to transform into numerous forms in the original series and being a two-foot-tall reindeer/human hybrid. Mikaela Hoover is not only lending her voice to this unique character but also controlling its facial expressions, giving her a more hands-on role in shaping Chopper’s onscreen persona.

Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, has shared an exciting message for fans after the big reveal. He said, “Get ready for season two of the live-action One Piece! We’ve been working hard to bring our unique talking animal character, Tony Tony Chopper, to life. From his appearance, fur, expressions, voice, and even the way he interacts with gravity, a top-notch team has been dedicated to making him as realistic as possible. Now it’s time for you to meet this amazing creation! Don’t miss out!

In the live-action second season, it’s not just Chopper who is joining the Straw Hat Pirates for the first time; Nico Robin will also debut, portrayed by Lera Abova. Robin, a member of Baroqueworks alongside Crocodile, will require computer-generated effects to depict her unique abilities.
