One Piece: Shanks Could Help Solve Elbaf’s Time Dilation Theory

As a seasoned One Piece fanatic with over two decades of sailing through the Grand Line, I can confidently say that the mysteries surrounding this captivating manga are as vast and uncharted as the ocean itself. Elbaf, the fabled kingdom of giants, is undoubtedly one of the greatest enigmas yet to be unraveled by Luffy and his crew.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but marvel at the enigmatic world of One Piece! The vastness we’ve explored so far is just the beginning; there are countless mysteries yet to unravel. The masterful storyteller, Eiichiro Oda, has many questions left to answer before concluding this epic manga journey. It’s exciting to anticipate how Elbaf might help us peel back the layers of secrecy that shroud this legendary kingdom of warriors. While much about Elbaf remains a mystery to most, Red-Hair Shanks stands out as an exception – not only does he maintain close ties with the giants, but his territories also include Elbaf itself!

It’s not certain exactly when Shanks met the Giants, but it could have been after his visit to Foosha Village twelve years ago, given his significant role in the story as the character who motivated Luffy to become a pirate. Despite being one of the main characters, Shanks only stayed in the village for a brief period. As a Yonko, he is usually found in the New World, where the greatest dangers reside. Interestingly, due to his frequent visits to Elbaf, fans have speculated about the time dilation effects on him, as this is a topic that was subtly hinted at in Volume 4’s SBS, where Oda cleverly avoided revealing Shanks’ age.

What Is the Time Dilation Theory in One Piece?

According to the theory, the land of Elbaf, home to its colossal inhabitants, might undergo unique temporal events distinct from the rest of the world. This is due to the giants’ extraordinary longevity, which could explain why Dorry and Brogy in the Little Garden Arc were unaware that a century had passed since their duel commenced. It remains unclear whether this extended lifespan is an inherent trait or the consequence of time dilation.

Yet, this doesn’t clarify their altered perception of time; instead, it appears that the colossus remains unresponsive to swift alterations in the environment. It seems plausible that dilation of time has contributed to the kingdom’s seclusion, as entering and exiting the island involves temporal anomalies.

A piece of evidence supporting this theory is the integration of Norse mythology, which emphasizes time and celestial events. Elbaf appears to be deeply influenced by Norse mythology, with characters such as Loki, the cursed prince, and Yggdrasil, the tree of life, being notable examples. It’s worth noting that time behaves differently across realms, particularly in relation to the spirit realm.

Beyond this, it seems the giants’ awe for their Sun Deity might indicate a profound celestial bond. Known as Nika, the Emancipator of Hope, is believed to inspire those struggling with freedom. This folklore is preserved and shared among the giants and pirates through the ages. Despite the extinction of pirates, the giants continue to uphold Nika’s legacy.

Shanks’ Visit in Elbaf Could Be the Key To Solving the Time Dilation Theory

The information comes from a popular Japanese fan on X who talks about Oda’s answer in SBS of Volume 4. SBS, short for Shitsumon o Boshū Suru, is a special column in One Piece manga volumes where Oda answers questions from fans. One of the questions asks the ages of Luffy, Zoro, Nami, and Shanks.

Oda subtly discloses the ages of Luffy, Zoro, and Nami, but when discussing Shanks, he only mentions that a Yonko was 27 while in Foosha Village. This hints at the possibility that Shanks might not be 39 years old because of time dilation. Elbaf is a mysterious location with strong ties to the Void Century and possibly the Ancient Weapons as well.

In Chapter 1132, Louis Arnote’s words conclude the story, “Be mindful not to outstay your visit.” Known as a “fabricator” for his embellished narratives, Arnote is one of the explorers who chronicled their adventures in “Brag Men.” He was initially introduced in Chapter 115 during the Little Garden Arc within the Arabasta Saga. Given Arnote’s cautionary statement, it seems that those lingering too long in Elbaf might encounter an unexpected and potentially unfavorable situation.

This implies that Shanks, having lingered longer than expected, may have been influenced by the peculiar occurrences that seem to have altered his biological clock. It’s worth noting that it’s not implausible for his crew members to experience similar effects as well. Shanks previously visited Elbaf six years ago, where he apprehended Loki and his associates following King Herald’s demise. Additionally, Shanks was seen socializing with the giants at Elbaf before Eustass Kidd challenged him once more. Given that Shanks is a Yonko, it’s likely that he has made additional trips to Elbaf and may have been subjected to time dilation effects.

Indeed, the theory of time dilation is more a widely discussed hypothesis rather than an irrefutable fact. Although it has some supporting evidence, it hasn’t been definitively proven yet. Just as Chapter 1126 marked the start of the Elbaf Arc in One Piece, the storyline is still unfolding and we might discover the truth about time dilation within One Piece sooner than anticipated.
