One Piece Shares Incredible Milestone for Its Manga in Its Latest Update

As a long-time fan and admirer of Eiichiro Oda’s masterpiece, One Piece, I can confidently say that I’ve witnessed history in the making. With over 10,000 days of publication under its belt, this pirate epic has not only outlasted countless manga series but has also cemented itself as a timeless story that will continue to captivate generations to come.

There’s no denying the monumental impact that Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece has had on the manga industry. Not only is the series a member of Weekly Shonen Jump‘s exclusive “Big 3” club, but it’s also one of the longest manga ever serialized, with an astounding 1133 chapters under its belt and more on the way. Oda’s pirate epic isn’t slowing down, and it recently earned itself a monumental new achievement that seems absolutely unbelievable, even for One Piece.

30 years ago, on July 22, 1997, I eagerly dove into the world of One Piece as it debuted in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. Since that day, this legendary series has continued to captivate fans like me for more than 10,000 days! In the very same issue where One Piece embarked on its unforgettable journey, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure was wrapping up Chapter 514, and Yu-Gi-Oh! was publishing Chapter 42. It’s incredible to think about how far these iconic series have come since then!

One Piece Was Always Destined For Greatness

In the course of its run, the manga series One Piece has witnessed numerous other manga series debut and fade away, yet Eiichiro Oda has remained modest during this voyage. At the tender age of seventeen, he published his initial one-shot titled Wanted! , earning him several accolades for the brief story, including a runner-up position for a Tezuka Award. The popularity of Wanted! opened doors for Oda at Weekly Shonen Jump, where he served as an assistant to Shinobu Kaitani while working on his series Suizan Police Gang. Subsequently, he collaborated with Masaya Tokuhiro on Jungle King Tar-chan. By the age of 19, Oda was already contributing to Rurouni Kenshin, effectively securing his career in the manga industry.

Based on the call for a new character and his sidekick’s work, Oda initially published two pirate-themed one-shot comics in 1996. One of these, named “Romance Dawn,” showcased an early version of Luffy as its main character. This short story was first published in Akamaru Jump, a seasonal edition of Weekly Shonen Jump that supports rising artists on Japanese holidays. Following this, One Piece started its serialization and gained immediate popularity, eventually surpassing all other manga series in terms of sales – breaking a Guinness World Record in 2022 by having over 500 million copies circulating. As of now, One Piece is the 20th longest-running manga series ever published, with 110 collected volumes released.
