One Piece Unveils Egghead’s Tragic Past: The Heartbreaking Kuma Flashback

The animated adaptation of One Piece is currently in the opening act of its Final Saga, and the tension has never been greater. The Straw Hats and their comrades find themselves pinned on an island by the Marines, with Admiral Kizaru and nine Vice Admirals among them. The skirmish with CP0 was merely a prelude, as the adversaries who follow are far more formidable and menacing. As the confrontation against the Marines unfolds, an unanticipated figure, Saint Jaygarcia Saturn, materializes on the island. Given that Kizaru hasn’t completed his assignment yet, Saturn feels it prudent to step in. He aims to wrap things up promptly, even if it necessitates revealing his peculiar, demonic aspect to all involved.

Instead of Saturn using a teleportation portal to quickly reach the island, let’s say he teleports directly to the island as swiftly as possible. Meanwhile, Bonney, engaged in combat with the Marines, finds herself unable to retaliate when a Pacifista rushes towards her. In her recollections, we catch a glimpse of Kuma, sharing words with her. If not for Sanji’s timely intervention, the attack from the Pacifista could have left Bonney severely injured. Although Episode 1129 has been postponed by a week, the upcoming episode will delve into Bartholomew Kuma’s heart-rending flashback.

One Piece’s Egghead Incident Arc Has Been Setting Up Kuma’s Flashback From the Beginning

Bonney’s sole purpose for visiting the island was her determination to locate Vegapunk, who transformed her father into a Pacifista. Despite the hazards and lacking any assistance, she dared to infiltrate Reverie on her own. Witnessing Kuma endure cruelty at the hands of a Celestial Dragon filled her with sympathy, prompting her to vow to rescue him. Even after being returned to the Revolutionary Army headquarters, Kuma seemed to dash towards Mariejois, suggesting he was searching for someone. Although he’s no longer considered human due to his transformation into a Pacifista, Kuma’s inherent instincts compel him to ascend as high as the Red Line in search of someone (presumably Bonney).

When he failed to locate what he sought, he once more departed Mariejois, causing his comrades in the Revolutionary Army to fret over his predicament. The series also hints that Kuma belongs to a unique bloodline, a fact that will be unveiled at a later time. This could explain why he was selected as a model for the Pacifistas. Additionally, Vegapunk retains Kuma’s memories in a paw-bubble within Labophase. Bonney catches a glimpse of his heartrending past, and we only get a brief look at it: as a child, Kuma is seen sobbing in an open field while wearing a yellow t-shirt with two orange splotch-like marks on the right side.

In Episode 1128, when Saturn reappears, Bonney recalls fond memories with Kuma from her past, particularly moments filled with warmth. These memories take her back to her most joyful times, before she experienced the loss of her father and home. Spotting Saturn once more also triggers memories of Kuma’s struggles, solidifying that Bonney is already aware of all past events due to having seen Kuma’s memories through the paw-bubble.
