In the latest installment of One Piece, fans were reminded once more of Eiichiro Oda’s remarkable creativity and impressive memory as an overlooked aspect of devil fruit mechanics was reintroduced. The ongoing Elbaf Arc has introduced a captivating new adversary in the form of Figarland Shamrock, who is none other than Shanks’ long-lost brother. This recent chapter offers a tantalizing peek into his fascinating abilities, specifically those linked to his sword.
Chapter 1138 of “One Piece” unveils that Shamrock’s sword holds the power typically associated with a Devil Fruit. This power enables it to metamorphose into the renowned three-headed dog, Cerberus. While the chapter doesn’t disclose the name of the specific Devil Fruit, it strongly hints that it is undoubtedly a Mythical Zoan, embodying the legendary beast from Greek mythology. It’s quite plausible that even the sword itself might bear the name of Cerberus.
One Piece Reveals Figarland Shamrock’s Powerful Devil Fruit Sword
In a somewhat unexpected twist, it’s not unheard of for fans of One Piece to encounter instances where ordinary objects are imbued with the power of a Devil Fruit. This unique concept was initially introduced during the Alabasta Arc when Lassoo, Mr. 4’s gun, was found to have absorbed the powers of the Mutt-Mutt Fruit, Model: Dachshund. This Devil Fruit ability resurfaced later in the Enies Lobby arc with Spandam’s sword Funksfreed, which held the power of the Elephant-Elephant Fruit. For a while, this idea seemed to be put on the shelf, but it reappeared again during Punk Hazard in a rather bizarre manner with Smiley, a sentient poisonous gas that possessed the power of the Sala-Sala Fruit, Model: Axolotl.
In contrast to some extreme instances depicted in previous chapters of this series, Shamrock’s sword, which holds a devil fruit power, appears somewhat restrained. However, it compensates for this by displaying extreme ferocity, as shown in Chapter 1138. This sword has the ability to transform into a colossal, fearsome beast, boasting three heads each equipped with a sword in its mouths. This monster, named Cerberus, uses these swords mercilessly against Loki without any hesitation. Furthermore, much like other objects imbued with devil fruit powers, Cerberus also seems to possess a certain level of intelligence. In fact, Shamrock has been observed leaving the sword to act independently while dealing with Loki, trusting it to keep him occupied.
Observing from afar, it’s fascinating to see how Oda skillfully played with our expectations regarding Figarland Shamrock and his abilities. Instead of granting him a typical Devil Fruit, he cleverly introduced an intriguing twist that also rekindled a long-forgotten concept, leaving many fans pleasantly surprised. This just goes to show that Eiichiro Oda meticulously considers every detail, and it wouldn’t be surprising if this unique Devil Fruit mechanism becomes more prevalent as we venture into the Final Saga. Perhaps the Straw Hats will incorporate this newfound ability into their arsenal of skills. As for Shamrock himself, his abilities are still somewhat of a mystery, but with the Elbaf Arc looming, I have no doubt that we’ll soon uncover more about his powers and perhaps even discover if he too possesses a Devil Fruit.
