Since wrapping up the Wano Arc, the narrative of One Piece has been moving at a rapid pace. The Egghead and Elbaf Arcs have already disclosed significant plot twists, making it seem like we’re finally in the climactic phase of the story. The Elbaf Arc, specifically, has kept fans on their toes as what appeared to be a joyful reunion tour has morphed into an all-out conflict against the World Government. Now, One Piece is introducing Imu to the realm of Giants, hinting that the series’ most eagerly awaited confrontation might occur earlier than expected.
In Chapter 1149 of One Piece, it’s Imu who arrives on Elbaf, seizing control of Gunko’s body to handle affairs on the island personally. This move brings Imu and Luffy closer to a confrontation on Elbaf. The recent chapter also suggests that Gunko recognizes Brook and attempts to free him as Imu prepares to take over. If someone can rescue Gunko from Imu’s grasp, it could potentially make Gunko an ally. Given Luffy’s status as the reincarnation of the Sun God Nika and the Warrior of Liberation, he might just be the one to do it.
One Piece Sets up a Battle Between Luffy and Imu on Elbaf
Through its long-running narrative, the manga “One Piece” has meticulously built up the World Government as the principal adversaries, revealing the tyranny and evil deeds of the Celestial Dragons in each new arc. Since Imu’s introduction, fans have been speculating about whether Imu could be the main antagonist of “One Piece.” The latest story arcs seem to support this theory. Although it appeared that the final confrontation between Luffy and Imu would occur at the very end of the series, Chapter 1149 of “One Piece” seems to suggest otherwise.
Even though Imu’s powers remain unknown, liberating Gunko from Imu’s influence could be our best strategy to stabilize the situation, considering Gunko seems to be an ally. Moreover, it would align perfectly thematically for Luffy, whose name symbolizes war drum, to free Gunko since she has expressed apprehension towards Nika in the past.
Regarding Gunko’s regeneration, it appears only Scopper Gaban possesses knowledge about bypassing the Holy Knights’ immortality. Notably, in the latest chapter, he finds himself inadvertently landing in the Underworld, where Luffy is currently residing. Chopper is also depicted leaping after Gaban in Chapter 1149, driven by a desire to uncover the secret to overcoming the Holy Knights. With Chopper’s assistance, Gaban might just endure the fall into the Underworld and receive medical attention for his wounds. This could potentially enable him to share the key to defeating Imu with Luffy, although it remains uncertain if Luffy will be successful in utilizing this knowledge.
One Piece is available to read on Manga Plus and Viz Media.
