One Piece’s Luffy Chases Disney Cruise Float at Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New Viral Image

As a seasoned gamer and anime enthusiast with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has truly outdone itself! The inclusion of iconic anime characters like Luffy, Goku, and even Pikachu was a delightful surprise.

Monkey D. Luffy is already eyeing up his replacement for The Thousand Sunny ship, as an image of this year’s annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has surfaced showing Luffy chasing the Disney Cruise float. The folks at Toei Animation teased their One Piece float yesterday in preparation for the Thanksgiving parade. The float depicts Luffy with his classic early look, sporting the classic red shirt and blue shorts with his signature straw hat. The tease yesterday showed Luffy during the inflation process, but fans have finally seen the float in action… and it’s ominous.

Floating aloft by numerous parade participants, the Toei Animation’s One Piece balloon depicts Luffy preparing to discharge a Gum-Gum Pistol. However, an amusing image circulating online suggests that Luffy is aiming his Gum-Gum Pistol at the Disney Cruise Ship float, giving the impression that he intends to seize the cruise ship as his next acquisition in his fleet. One wonders how the Disney Cruise Ship would fare on the Grand Line!

One Piece’s Luffy Returns to NYC Behind Disney Cruise Line Parade Float

Over the course of 1122 episodes in “One Piece”, Luffy and his Straw Hat crew have encountered many formidable enemies such as Kaido, Blackbeard, and Bartholemew Kuma among others. However, the crew of the Disney Cruise Ship might prove to be their most challenging adversaries yet. To claim the ship as his own, Luffy must overcome Princess Tiana, Prince Naveen, Donald Duck, and Daisy Duck individually first, followed by the pirate captains Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse.

For two years in a row now, Luffy has been included in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Last year’s parade highlighted a float that bore a striking resemblance to this year’s, as Luffy was depicted in his original appearance instead of his latest Gear Fifth form. Here’s an image showing last year’s display:

Anime Is Taking Over the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

With anime’s increasing popularity in the U.S., it has become a part of our annual festivities. Fans don anime sweaters during winter celebrations, and dress up as their favorite characters for Halloween. Now, they can even witness colossal balloons portraying famous anime characters drifting menacingly above them at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

2021 featured three floats showcasing iconic characters from widely acclaimed anime series. Among them was a float of Luffy, while another depicted Goku waving to spectators as it sailed through New York. Unlike earlier floats that highlighted his Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan’s vibrant blue hair, this year’s float showcased Goku with his natural black locks in his traditional orange gi. The crowd was left in awe and eagerly awaiting the following floats, wondering if they could surpass the impressive display of Goku.

As a gamer, I’d say: “For me, the anime parade was truly made special by the iconic introduction to anime – none other than Pokémon. The float showcased what many would agree are the most recognizable Pokémon ever crafted, Pikachu and Eevee. These beloved creatures were perched atop a snow sled that resembled a Pokéball, with Pikachu donning a cozy winter scarf and Eevee sporting a festive red Santa hat.
