The live-action adaptation of “One Piece,” one of Netflix’s most successful anime releases in recent years, is preparing for the premiere of Season 2 soon. However, hints have been dropped that the series might extend to Season 3 before Season 2 has even debuted. Given the extensive scope of Eiichiro Oda’s original “One Piece” manga, spanning over 1100 chapters, there’s a vast amount of material that could be explored in a live-action adaptation.
After the highly successful debut of Season 1, it was no great shock when Netflix announced Season 2 of “One Piece” shortly after. However, fans were left pondering if the series could continue due to the vast amount of content yet to be covered. As of now, Netflix has not confirmed whether a third season of the live-action series is on the horizon, but in an interview with Crunchyroll, “One Piece” actor Mackenyu hinted that work on Season 3 will commence soon.
One Piece’s Mackenyu Teases Work on Season 3
Mackenyu recently revealed that his upcoming project is “One Piece” Season 2, although there are other projects scheduled before they begin filming for Season 3. Unfortunately, he can’t share details about these secret projects, leaving fans eagerly waiting to find out more. Earlier this year, it was announced that production on “One Piece” Season 2 had been completed, but a release date hasn’t been set yet. However, the rapid pace of preparation for Season 3 suggests that it may be coming sooner than anticipated. This is not surprising given the show’s popularity among fans.
There will likely be an increased desire for additional episodes in the live-action adaptation of “One Piece,” and the show’s narrative flow necessitates a quicker production pace between seasons. The rapid sequence of events experienced by Luffy and the Straw Hats demands that the live-action series should also convey the swiftness of their journey. If a third season is indeed in development, it would be strategic to start working on it promptly. However, it’s important to note that Netflix has not yet officially confirmed a third season.
When Does One Piece Return to Netflix?
Looking towards a possible Season 3, all attention is shifting towards One Piece Season 2 at present. The live-action adaptation, slated to premiere on Netflix soon, hasn’t yet revealed any specific launch date or timeframe. Although Netflix hinted at their upcoming releases for the year 2025, unfortunately, One Piece didn’t feature in the announced schedule, suggesting a potential delay until next year for its release.
Mackenyu reprises his role as Roronoa Zoro, joining other returning cast members including Iñaki Godoy portraying Monkey D. Luffy, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji in the series. The duration of this “One Piece” series on Netflix is still uncertain, but a third season seems plausible considering the events unfolding in Season 2 will pave the way for an epic conclusion in the following installment.
