As a dedicated fan of One-Punch Man since its inception, I must say that the anticipation for season three has been relentless, much like Saitama himself after a long day of fighting monsters. The latest character poster release featuring Zombieman is a delightful treat, not only because he’s a fascinating character but also because his design perfectly encapsulates the spooky vibe of Halloween.

The third season of One-Punch Man has yet to announce its release date, leaving anime enthusiasts in anticipation for Saitama’s return. However, the popular series is still getting into the Halloween spirit by unveiling a series of character posters showcasing the heroes and villains set to appear in the upcoming battles between the Hero Association and the Monster Association. The most recent poster highlights a hero whose eerie appearance fits perfectly with the Halloween theme, but his identity may be unfamiliar to those unaware of his criminal past as a supernatural fighter.

In the world of One-Punch Man, Zombieman is a lesser-known yet intriguing character who hasn’t received much attention in the first two seasons of the anime but is well-known among manga readers due to his chilling moniker. This S-Rank hero boasts an extraordinary healing ability that allows him to recover from any assault, as evident in the manga where he endured severe damage during combat. Interestingly, the origins of this zombie vigilante might surprise you, and his past is closely linked to a significant conflict that anime enthusiasts have already witnessed in Saitama’s career history.

Zombieman’s Season Three Return

Originally, Zombieman was developed by Dr. Genus, who was known for crafting formidable villains within the “House of Evolution.” This organization stood as a significant rival to Saitama, with a roster of fearsome creatures such as Mosquito Girl, Armored Gorilla, Beast King, and the strongest among them, Carnage Kabuto. Despite the “Hero For Fun” defeating all these villains effortlessly with just one blow, it appears that the experiments conducted within the House of Evolution also produced one of the world’s greatest heroes in addition to its most menacing villains.

Although regeneration is a remarkable ability, it’s clear that Zombieman’s expertise and application of his power are what earned him the sixth spot among heroes in the Hero Association. Readers of the manga can anticipate that the regenerating hero will take center stage in season three; hopefully, we’ll learn when this season is set to release before the end of 2024.

What Will Season 3 Cover?

Previously mentioned, it’s been quite some time since we last saw One-Punch Man in season two, which ended back in 2019. When the series resumes, J.C. Staff will once again take charge, with the narrative delving not only into Saitama’s storyline but also that of the hero killer called Garou. Interestingly, Garou may receive more screen time this season as his alliance with the Monster Association becomes a significant aspect of the series’ progression. The Hero For Fun is still in search of an adversary who can endure one of his punches, and the former disciple of hero Bang intends to fill that role.

Beyond the forthcoming third season, both the manga and webcomic are carrying on beyond the battle against the Monster Association. Given the surge of interest in live-action anime adaptations in Hollywood, Sony Pictures is also developing a live-action movie to retell Saitama’s tale for a fresh audience. Known for his work on Fast & The Furious, Justin Lin is confirmed as director, and beloved creator Dan Harmon (from Community and Rick & Morty) is penning this modern reinterpretation of the iconic anime character. Despite Saitama not finding a worthy adversary yet, he has a promising future ahead.
