As a seasoned survival horror fan who has navigated the zombie-infested halls of Raccoon City multiple times over, I couldn’t be more thrilled to hear that Capcom is bringing back the original Resident Evil 2 to GOG! Growing up, these games were my bread and butter, and the thought of revisiting Claire and Leon’s terrifying journey brings a nostalgic chill down my spine.
For a while now, fans have been asking Capcom to bring back the original Resident Evil trilogy in their classic form, but a full re-release is still unclear. However, Capcom has been making it easier for us to access these older games. In June, they released the first game, Resident Evil 1, on GOG, and they’ve confirmed that the next two games will also be available there soon. Now, one of those sequels is now available on the platform as well.
On August 27, which is just over a week away, GOG is set to release the original Resident Evil 2 on their platform. This re-release will include upgraded cutscenes, subtitles, and audio, in addition to numerous bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements like immediate access to 4th Survivor and Tofu modes. It will also have full compatibility with modern controllers and other enhancements.
It’s unclear when the original “Resident Evil 3” will be available on GOG, but as previously announced this year, it is expected to debut in 2024. Therefore, we should hear an update regarding its release date shortly.
