As a die-hard fan of horror comedies who grew up watching the original Scary Movie films, I can hardly contain my excitement! Regina Hall’s potential return to Brenda Meeks is like finding out that your favorite high school buddy is coming back for the reunion. The thought of the Wayans brothers being at the helm again brings back memories of the good old days when we all laughed our hearts out in the movie theater.
In an interview with TV Insider, Regina Hall, who starred in Scary Movie, seems open to reprising her role for the upcoming reboot of the series. She expressed enthusiasm about the new installment of the comedy-horror franchise and hinted at the possibility that the original cast might reunite for it. However, she was absent from the fifth film in the franchise.
Hall expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “It’s great to hear that the Wayans, who initially conceived the project, are once again involved and leading the way. I’m happy for them. We’ll find out if Brenda is part of this new landscape. I’m eagerly anticipating the chance that the group might reunite again. That would be quite enjoyable.
Back in April of this year, it was first revealed that the Scary Movie series would be revived, with the original creators Keenen Ivory Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Marlon Wayans set to return. These three were responsible for launching the franchise in 2000, and they are now working on the script for the upcoming movie together with Rick Alvarez.

The Wayans brothers expressed their immense joy about joining the latest “Scary Movie” production and collaborating once more. They’ve been associated with this franchise for over 20 years now, recalling moments of audience laughter filling the theaters. Their aim is to recreate those hilarious scenes, and they are eager to team up with Jonathan Glickman and his Miramax crew to make it happen on the big screen. Essentially, it’s a delightful double reunion for them.
It’s possible that both Hall and Anna Faris could be open to reprising their roles for the reboot of the series. Faris had expressed interest, provided that Hall also returned, as they were key characters in the original Scary Movie franchise from 2000 to 2006. Just like Hall, she did not participate in Scary Movie 5, released in 2013.
Faris expressed his enthusiasm about working with Regina Hall once more. He shared that they’d spend the entire day laughing together. If given a choice, he’d pick Regina Hall above all else – and of course, a generous compensation too. But primarily, it’s all about Regina for him!
In the initial Scary Movie, a gang of teenagers found themselves in a bind when they struck a man with their vehicle, then concealed his corpse in a lake under an oath of silence. However, a year later, a character donning a Ghostface mask started chasing the group relentlessly, one member at a time. This movie showcased comedic imitations of various films, such as Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Blair Witch Project, and others.
It’s worth noting that aside from Scary Movie, another horror (or horror-adjacent) film from its time is also set for a comeback, with some original cast members returning. Specifically, I Know What You Did Last Summer is being revived, and Freddie Prinze Jr. will reprise his role as Ray Bronson, while Jennifer Love Hewitt will return as Julie James. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on July 18, 2025.
As for the new Scary Movie, it’s expected to film in 2025 and does not yet have a release date.
