Original X-Men Star Reveals If They’re In Avengers: Doomsday (& They Should Be)

The upcoming Marvel movie, “Avengers: Doomsday“, is set to have actors from the Fox’s X-Men series. However, a familiar character, Iceman played by Shawn Ashmore, won’t be making an appearance. In an interview with “Nerd Reactor“, Ashmore mentioned that Marvel Studios hasn’t contacted him about reprising his role as Iceman in “Doomsday“. Although he’s open to returning, he clarified that no such plans have been made yet.

Ashmore stated, “This is the peculiar aspect… It’s as if someone asked me if I was in it, but I can’t confirm that I am because I’m not. There’s been no communication regarding my involvement. I haven’t been cast, and this has been a common question since the last Deadpool film. People keep asking, ‘Are you in it?’ To which I respond, ‘No.’ They might wink in response, but honestly, I’m not. However, I am open to reprising my role if the opportunity arises.

In three movies that make up the initial X-Men series, the character of Iceman, played by Ashmore, was depicted. The story followed his transformation from a pupil at Xavier’s School for Exceptional Students to an integral part of the X-Men team. His final portrayal in this role occurred in 2014’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” where Iceman met his end at the hands of Sentinels.

Toward the end of March, Marvel Studios made an official announcement during a special livestream event about the 27 actors involved in the production of Avengers: Doomsday. Several stars from Ashmore’s X-Men series are part of this impressive cast. Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Kelsey Grammer, Alan Cumming, and Rebecca Romijn will all reprise their roles for next summer’s highly anticipated movie.

Despite Ashmore’s firm stance that he won’t reprise his role, Marvel enthusiasts are well acquainted with Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man: No Way Home scenario. Some spectators might persist in hoping that Ashmore is being secretive to maintain a surprise. Marvel has hinted at more Doomsday castings in the future, which leaves a slim possibility for Ashmore’s involvement. The identity of other potential cast members remains unclear, and Marvel has already surprised fans with the initial wave of announcements. Given these circumstances, it wouldn’t be too implausible for other veteran X-Men actors to make an appearance.

It appears that Marvel may be planning to use “Doomsday” as a farewell for the original Fox cast prior to their X-Men reboot. Given Iceman’s significant role in the original film trilogy, it seems fitting that Kelsey Grammer, who played Iceman, should be included in the cast. It would seem unusual if only a select few X-Men actors were brought back. Scheduling issues are always a possibility, but Marvel might consider reaching out to Grammer to see if he’s available. However, the “Doomsday” cast is already quite full, and with more additions anticipated, there’s a risk the movie could become overcrowded. The Russo Brothers, directors of the film, have handled large ensembles in the past, so finding that balance should be manageable.
