In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Orlando Bloom expressed his willingness to reprise the role of Will Turner in a future Pirates of the Caribbean movie. When asked about returning to the franchise, Bloom hinted that he might be on board. He said, “It was a wild and fun experience, so who knows? Never say never.” He also mentioned his respect for the entire Pirates of the Caribbean journey, producer Jerry Bruckheimer, and the overall experience.
Despite this, Bloom mentioned that the idea of returning isn’t currently on his mind. “To be honest,” he said, “it’s not something I’ve given much thought to.” He expressed joy about being part of something that seems to be enduring, adding, “It’s fascinating to be a part of something that feels like it’s surviving the test of time, which is really cool.
Back in the swinging ’00s, I was part of the stellar cast gracing the high seas as Will Turner in the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, alongside Johnny Depp and Keira Knightley. However, my character took a short break from the adventure in 2011’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.” Fast forward to 2017’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” I made a comeback, shedding the curse that tied me to the infamous Flying Dutchman. This allowed me to rekindle my love story with Elizabeth Swann once again.
Disney is contemplating bringing the Pirates of the Caribbean series back, but the specific format for a new film remains unclear. Earlier plans included a reboot starring Margot Robbie, which was put on hold in 2022. Now, there are rumors that Johnny Depp might reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow, although no formal offer has been extended yet.
Reintroducing Bloom in a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie might be challenging due to Knightley’s decision to exit the series, which makes a return for her character unlikely. Since Will and Elizabeth share a deep connection, crafting a story without one or both could prove tricky. The filmmakers could opt for recasting Elizabeth, but this move could potentially upset loyal fans. If the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise decides to come back, their aim would be to breathe new life into it following the less-than-favorable response to “Dead Men Tell No Tales”. Taking radical steps such as separating Will and Elizabeth or replacing Knightley could put the project at a disadvantage from the start, creating obstacles that might be hard to overcome.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding another Pirates of the Caribbean movie, given the success and chemistry between Jack Sparrow (Depp) and Will Turner (Bloom) in their past films, it would be exciting to witness them embark on another adventure together. However, the production of a sixth movie is not guaranteed as Disney executives are yet to decide on the project’s fate. Last year, Jerry Bruckheimer hinted that the decision lies with the studio, stating, “Let’s hope Disney likes it.” The franchise, being one of Disney’s most iconic properties, might exercise caution when green-lighting another installment due to the lower box office performance of the latest film, Dead Men Tell No Tales, compared to its previous billion-dollar earnings. Nevertheless, if Disney believes a new Pirates movie could reignite audience interest in the property, they may move forward with production, regardless of whether or not Orlando Bloom is willing to reprise his role.
