Orlando Bloom has expressed interest in reprising his role as Legolas in another Lord of the Rings movie, but he feels he might need a bit of assistance to get back into character. Since filming the original trilogy more than two decades ago, Bloom is now 48 years old. Production for The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum has started, which is set within the time-jump in the first movie, The Fellowship of the Ring. When asked by MovieWeb interviewers if he would take on the role again for this new project, Bloom stated that he’d be open to it, but only under the condition that he could convincingly portray Legolas once more, possibly with the help of some modern technology.
Bloom suggested that it would be ideal to depict Legolas as he was during the original trilogy. He implied this could only be achieved with artificial intelligence. He further expressed a desire for the character to appear youthful, agile, and warrior-like, again emphasizing the need for AI. If given the chance, Bloom stated he would enthusiastically agree, finding it exciting to return to New Zealand for however long production required.
