Orphan Black: Echoes Showrunner Explains Why Tatiana Maslany Didn't Cameo in Season 1

As a dedicated fan who has followed the captivating world of Orphan Black since its inception, I must confess that the premiere of Echoes left me both intrigued and slightly disappointed. The new series offers an exciting blend of familiar faces and fresh storylines, but the absence of Tatiana Maslany’s multi-faceted performances was palpable.

The final episode of the debut season for “Orphan Black: Echoes” aired on Sunday, concluding a series of ten episodes that kept fans guessing. This new series, which unfolds decades after the events of “Orphan Black” on BBC America, primarily introduces a fresh cloning mystery, albeit with intriguing links to its predecessor. Despite not featuring Tatiana Maslany in any of her multiple roles from the original show, characters like Felix Dawkins (Jordan Gavaris) and Delphine Cormier (Evelyne Brochu) made appearances, along with references to Sarah Manning and Cosima Niehaus among other Leda clones. However, an interview with “Orphan Black: Echoes” showrunner Anna Fishko revealed that efforts were made to include Maslany in the spinoff’s first season. Unfortunately, her involvement was hindered by scheduling conflicts due to her role in AMC’s canceled adaptation of “Invitation to a Bonfire.”

Indeed, Fishko disclosed that they had discussed it extensively. In fact, there was an entire episode planned for her during the latter part of the season, but due to scheduling conflicts, she was filming at the exact same time they were, making it impossible to align schedules. Regrettably, it didn’t work out as planned.

Fishko mentioned that they’d be thrilled if Tatiana could return. If given the opportunity to bring one of the original sister clones back, it would add fun and intrigue, he suggested. So, assuming scheduling works out in a potential second season, it could be an exciting development. That would be wonderful, he concluded.
