Orphan Black: Echoes Showrunner Teases SPOILER's Connection to Season 1 Events

As a dedicated fan of the original “Orphan Black” series, I must admit that the anticipation for its spinoff, “Orphan Black: Echoes,” has been palpable. Having followed the complex lives and relationships of the Leda clones over the years, it’s intriguing to see how the narrative continues to unfold, even in the absence of Tatiana Maslany’s mesmerizing performance.

Echoes” is nearing the end of its first season, leaping forward in time within the universe of the popular science fiction show “Orphan Black”. Although the original series’ star Tatiana Maslany won’t be seen in Season 1 of “Echoes”, hints from the spin-off suggest that some of the Leda clones have discovered Kira Manning’s (Keeley Hawes) cloning experiments. Delphine Cormier (Evelyne Brochu) has mentioned that Cosima Niehaus is troubled by her niece’s actions. In a conversation with “TV Insider”, the creator, showrunner, writer, and executive producer of “Orphan Black: Echoes”, Anna Fishko, talked about whether or not Kira’s mother, Leda clone and current humanitarian Sarah Manning (also played by Tatiana Maslany), is aware of her daughter’s activities.

In Fishko’s words, it seems we believed Sarah might have been informed because we assumed they all maintain some level of contact. So, it’s likely we pictured Sarah as being aware at that moment, although Cosima would uphold her secrecy if directly asked. However, when we initially discussed this, we envisioned that Sarah may have been made aware.

What Is Orphan Black: Echoes About?

The series titled “Orphan Black: Echoes” centers around a set of women who become intertwined with one another, embarking on an exhilarating adventure to solve the enigma of their past while navigating a heart-wrenching tale of loyalty and deceit. In this production, Taylor will portray Lucy, a character with an extraordinary backstory seeking her identity in the world. Anna Fishko assumes the roles of showrunner and writer for “Orphan Black: Echoes“, while John Fawcett reprises his position as executive producer and director. Besides these, Keeley Hawes, Amanda Fix, Rya Kihlstedt, and Avon Jogia are also part of the star-studded cast.

In a recent conversation with ComicBook, Kihlstedt expressed that as the series progresses, particularly episodes 5 and 6, the clone element becomes increasingly prominent by the end. This leads to the realization that there are actually four versions of the character Eleanor, with original Eleanor and new Eleanor being two of them. It’s unknown how many more copies of Eleanor were created by Kira that we haven’t seen yet. Kihlstedt finds this concept intriguing, as it explores the idea of connections between people, whether they’ve met or not. The clone aspect, in a literal DNA sense, seems to capture this idea more directly. However, what Kihlstedt enjoys most is the notion that there might be someone somewhere in the world who you’ll never meet or cross paths with, yet shares your physical and genetic makeup in our vast, interconnected world. Kihlstedt finds the clone aspect of the story absolutely captivating.

New episodes of Orphan Black: Echoes air Sundays at 10/9c on AMC, BBC America, and AMC+.
