Ariana Grande’s acting career is soaring to new heights.
It was revealed on January 23 that she had been nominated for Best Supporting Actress at this year’s Oscars, to be held by Conan O’Brien on March 2 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. This nomination is for her portrayal of Glinda the Good Witch in the production of “Wicked”.
This recognition represents her initial Academy Award nomination at the age of 31, and it’s understandable that she showed strong emotions upon hearing about it.
Taking breaks from my sobs to express a heartfelt thank you to @theacademy for this incredible honor,” she wrote in her Instagram post on Jan. 23. “I can’t stop crying, as expected. I feel humbled and deeply touched to be among such talented individuals and to share this moment with little Ari, who was listening to Judy Garland sing ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ right before the magnificent bubble appeared.
In the endearing post, a youthful Ariana was shown wearing a dress inspired by Dorothy and a headband. She even took the time to express gratitude towards the child whose aspirations helped her reach her current status, stating, “I’m incredibly proud of you, little one.
She couldn’t hide her gratitude for the recognition without acknowledging her on-screen and real-life best friend, Cynthia Erivo (who was nominated for Actress in a Leading Role for her portrayal of Elphaba), along with all the Ozians who helped make this achievement possible.
Ariana went on to say, “I’m so incredibly proud of my sister Elphie, dear Cynthiaerivo. Your intellect is boundless, and it’s only fitting that you have every tulip in every garden. My love for you is unconditional and eternal.
Not only the actors in the film received good news during nominations, but the entire production of “Wicked” was highly acclaimed at this year’s event. It garnered a total of 10 nominations, among which were Best Picture, Costume Design, Sound, and several others.
2025 awards season saw this movie make its mark in more than one ceremony. In fact, it garnered four nominations at the Golden Globes held on January 5, hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser. Eventually, it won the award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.
The film’s Globes nominations also recognized Ariana for her role in the Best Supporting Actress category. However, it was Zoe Saldaña who ended up winning the award. Nonetheless, Ariana’s response to receiving the nomination was equally delightful.
Ariana was thrilled beyond belief when she heard about her nomination on December 9th, as shared in an Instagram Story. She expressed her astonishment and gratitude towards the Golden Globe Association members, admitting that she found it hard to express her feelings but was truly grateful for this recognition. Needless to say, tears were shed (naturally).
And this gratitude runs deep—more than 2 decades deep, to be exact.
The first time I watched ‘Wicked’ was when I was ten, and it feels incredibly fortunate,” she shared with Deadline during an interview on November 22nd. “I had the privilege of witnessing the original Broadway cast. My life split into two distinct parts: before I saw ‘Wicked’, and after I saw ‘Wicked’. It was a moment that truly transformed me.
Five years after the fog from “Wicked” had lifted, Ariana found herself making her Broadway debut in “13: the musical,” sharing the stage with her future co-star from “Victorious,” Liz Gillies. As she took on the sought-after role in the film adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical, she recognized that her theater background had been gearing her up for this very moment.
She shared with The Hollywood Reporter towards the end of last year that this entire journey felt like a return home for her. Since she began in theater, they started on the stage. Despite taking many different paths over time, finding her way back here has been a deeply rejuvenating experience for her soul.

As a lifestyle expert, I must say that Emilia Pérez, famously known for her role as Jessi Del Monte, has been garnering praise for her exceptional work. However, despite this positive recognition, she was unfortunately not included in the list of nominees for Best Supporting Actress at the recent awards ceremony. Still, her talent and dedication to her craft continue to shine brightly!
One who did find themselves on the coveted list was Monica Barbaro.
To clarify, Monica’s nomination for her role as Joan Baez in “A Complete Unknown” was an unexpected delight since she hadn’t received a Golden Globe nomination. However, her performance did secure recognition with a nod for the 2025 SAG Awards instead.
In contrast to Maria’s recent recognition in The Eternals from 2021, marking her first significant role since then, Angelina Jolie received a nomination for the Golden Globes but missed out on an Oscar nod.
It’s no shock that they were nominated, but what could catch you off guard is that these long-time Hollywood stars haven’t received an Academy Award nomination until now.
Notable figures such as Demi Moore (“The Substance”), Guy Pearce (“The Brutalist”), Isabella Rossellini (Conclave), Zoe Saldaña (“Emilia Pérez”), Kieran Culkin (“A Real Pain”), and Brazil’s Fernanda Torres (“I’m Still Here”) are all receiving their first nominations, despite having long-standing careers.
Although Wicked achieved significant box office success and received critical praise, it failed to secure a nomination for the director in the Directing category, despite their age being 45 years old.
The fact that the horror movie, starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley, which received a nomination for Best Picture isn’t completely unexpected considering its favorable response, is nevertheless unusual given that horror films are typically not included in the top category, breaking a longstanding trend.
In the same movie genre, a few past films that have been recognized with a Best Picture nomination include “Get Out”, “The Silence of the Lambs”, “The Sixth Sense”, and “The Exorcist”.
Despite receiving a nomination at the Golden Globes, the actress famed for her role in “Babygirl” and who has been nominated for five Academy Awards throughout her career, did not make it to the list of nominees for this year’s Oscars.
Despite the tennis-focused movie featuring stars like Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor failing to receive any Oscar nominations, it was particularly unexpected that it didn’t get nominated in the Music (Original Score) category.
Indeed, the electronic, bass-rich soundtrack nearly took on a personality of its own within the movie, setting it apart as one of the standout scores from the past year.
Keen observers who followed the announcement might have spotted that for some movie titles, it was stated, “The nominees are yet to be decided.
According to the Academy’s guidelines, a producer must first be deemed eligible by the Producers Guild of America. In other words, the names of some nominees are yet to be confirmed.
The announcements, coming in early February, therefore promise to be a surprise for all.
In The Last Showgirl, the 57-year-old’s acting was praised and even led to a Golden Globe nomination. However, both Pamela and the movie itself, along with fellow actress Jamie Lee Curtis, did not receive an Oscar nomination.
Yes, absolutely, the actress from The Mindy Project is now collaborating with Anuja, who was nominated for a Live Action Short Film, having contributed to its production.
