Oshi no Ko’s New Novel Reveals Heartbreaking Secrets Fans Never Knew!

At long last, the companion novel for the previously hard-to-find “Oshi no Ko” will hit shelves in the United States. Yen Press, a well-known publisher and distributor, has revealed that they will distribute the “Spica of the First Star” light novel under their Yen On imprint. This spin-off title delves into significant events preceding the main storyline of the popular manga, providing essential backstory for the series’ primary characters. With fans eagerly anticipating an official English translation due to its valuable insights, the novel was initially published in Japan in November 2023, making it one of the earliest spin-off novels released alongside the surging popularity of the original “Oshi no Ko” manga. Expected to hit stores in North America this July.

The primary manga revolves around pop idol Ai Hoshino and her twin offspring, Aqua and Ruby. In the initial plot development, Ai is killed in the early chapters, with her kids taking center stage as protagonists. Interestingly, Aqua and Ruby are reincarnations of individuals who knew Ai in their past lives. The main storyline, titled “Spica of the First Star“, explores Ai’s desire to depart from her pop group, B Komachi. Additionally, there’s a subplot delving into Aqua and Ruby’s former lives, showcasing their encounter, separation, death, and subsequent reincarnation as Ai’s children. There’s also an additional tale called “Perspective B”, focusing on another member of B Komachi during Ai’s tenure within the group.

In this new novel, we see Kane Arima and Akane Kurokawa, two rival idols, forming friendships with Aqua and Ruby – characters from the main manga storyline.

Title “Futari no Etude” serves as both a prequel and sequel to the primary storyline of “Oshi no Ko.” This work delves into the lives of characters Kane and Akane following the events depicted in the manga, revealing how these two individuals initially crossed paths as children. The second light novel of this series was unveiled in Japan during December 2024, yet an official English translation has not been made available at the moment of writing.

The manga, titled “Oshi no Ko,” was transformed into a live-action TV series from November 28th to December 5th, 2024.
