When will Outlander: Blood of My Blood be released?

Outlander: Blood of My Blood will premiere in summer 2025.

The specific day of launch is still undetermined, however, what we can confirm is that the series will consist of ten episodes. It’s expected that these episodes will be rolled out on a weekly basis, much like how Outlander has been released.

In the U.S., the series is set to air on STARZ, while globally, it’ll be handled by Sony Pictures Television for distribution. This means UK viewers can stream it on MGM+, which is accessible via Amazon Prime Video.

Back in 2023, the series made its official debut, and it was also confirmed at that time that Outlander would conclude with its eighth season.

What will Outlander: Blood of My Blood be about?

Initially, it was revealed that the prequel series would narrate the story of Jamie Fraser’s parents, Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie, primarily focusing on their lives and relationship. However, it has since become clear that this is just one part of the larger narrative.

The series will additionally delve into the lives and romantic tale of Claire’s parents as well, implying that it will span across 18th century Scotland and England during the First World War.

The official summary for the series, titled “Outlander: Blood of My Blood,” presents two fresh pairs of lovers: Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine), along with Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy). These couples face numerous obstacles as they strive to stay together, with their romantic journeys spanning across different eras.

Two romantic tales unfold – one amidst the war-torn landscapes of World War I and another in the rugged Highlands of 18th century Scotland. These love stories, destined to cross paths, face challenges as they strive to overcome forces working against them in unexpected manners.

As the production of our show commenced, with its talented cast in place, Showrunner Matthew B Roberts expressed his excitement by saying: “We can’t wait to delve into the tales of these four characters.

We delve into the beginnings of these characters’ connections, which resonate across different eras with relatable themes. We can’t wait for audiences to become enamored with these new characters and their romantic tales, just as they have with Claire and Jamie.

Previously, Roberts mentioned that the series delves into how far someone might be willing to travel in search of love during an era where love is deemed a rare commodity, and marriages are frequently arranged, typically for reasons of politics or wealth.

He shared: “The title is a tribute to Jamie Fraser’s wedding promise to Claire, and it contains multiple names and faces that Outlander enthusiasts will recognize.

In writing the series, showrunner and executive producer Roberts is joined by other executive producers Ronald D Moore and Maril Davis. Additionally, author Diana Gabaldon, whose works inspired the Outlander series, plays a consultative role in its production.

Who will star in Outlander: Blood of My Blood?

In the main cast of Outlander: Blood of My Blood, a new character has been unveiled – and there’s no anticipation for the appearance of Sam Heughan or Caitríona Balfe in this particular episode.

The upcoming series features Harriet Slater (from Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny) and Jamie Roy (Condor’s Nest) portraying Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, who are Jamie’s parents. Meanwhile, Hermione Corfield (We Hunt Together) and Jeremy Irvine (Benediction) take on roles as Claire’s parents, Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp respectively.

In the upcoming series, Rory Alexander takes on the role of Duncan LaCroix’s character, Murtagh Fitzgibbons, originally from Outlander. Meanwhile, Sam Retford portrays a younger version of Graham McTavish’s character, Dougal MacKenzie.

Moreover, Séamus McLean Ross takes on the role originally played by Gary Lewis as Colum, while Conor MacNeill steps into the shoes of Ned Gowan, previously portrayed by Bill Paterson.

Mary & George star Tony Curran has also been confirmed to play Lord Lovat, Jamie’s grandfather.

“Ultimately, he was like, ‘I think you should do it and I think you’ll have a great time.’

The original statement implies that you have a contract for a specific duration, but its execution is uncertain. However, based on my observations of the Scottish and British crews, their professionalism has been truly remarkable, and what we’ve filmed thus far appears quite appealing.

It seems that the length of your contract might not be fulfilled, but given the exceptional professionalism I’ve witnessed from the Scottish and British teams, and the appealing footage we’ve captured so far, it’s looking promising.

In a different phrasing, actor Peter Mullan from the show Ozark will appear in his new role as Red Jacob MacKenzie, the chief of Clan MacKenzie, who is also known as the father of Ellen, Dougal, Colum, Janet, and Jocasta.

Previously declared, the role of clan leader Isaac in Blood of My Blood was set to be played by the late Brian McCardie.

Since the actor tragically passed away in April 2024, it remains uncertain whether his character will appear.
