Outlander season 7b delivers sad time travel update for Roger – but marks return of season 1 character

As a seasoned Outlander fan who has traversed the intricate tapestry of time travel and historical drama since its inception, I must admit that the latest episode left me reeling with anticipation for what lies ahead. The unexpected resurrection of Brian Fraser, Jamie’s father, was nothing short of a jaw-dropping moment that sent ripples of excitement through the fandom.

As the second half of Outlander season 7 approaches, fans of the show are equally pondering over the fate of young Jemmy as they are anticipating the developments involving Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitríona Balfe) amidst the tumultuous Revolutionary War.

In a dramatic turn of events during the mid-season finale of Season 7, Roger MacKenzie (Richard Rankin) and Brianna (Sophie Skelton), his wife, found themselves in a predicament when their son was abducted by Rob Cameron (Chris Fulton), who had previously posed as a friend and associate of Bri’s.

In the second half of season 7, we find Roger and his companion, Diarmaid Murtagh, having just passed through the stones at Craigh Na Dun. Consequently, they chose to separate their paths, each taking a different route, in order to intensify their pursuit for Jemmy and Rob.

As we trail Roger, his thoughts battle apprehension over Jemmy’s whereabouts while pressing on towards Lallybroch. Despite the uncertainty of time, he remains optimistic that Jemmy has somehow managed to evade Rob and return home – no matter if it lies in a different era.

However, Roger encounters an unexpected turn of events when he knocks on the door, revealing Jamie’s father, Brian Fraser (Andrew Whipp), instead.

For just a moment, the skillfully blended sequence made it seem plausible that Roger might have been standing at the very same Lallybroch door where Jamie and Claire resided back in 1778.

Indeed, things didn’t turn out as expected, and instead of arriving in the 18th century as intended, Roger finds himself taken aback when he encounters Jamie’s father, whom he believed to be deceased, standing right before him in reality.

In the final scenes of season 1, Brian Fraser met a tragic end. Believing his son to be deceased, he suffered a stroke and fell unconscious, ultimately passing away a few days afterwards.

Despite the fact that Whipp hasn’t appeared on our screens as Brian in a while, it was earlier announced that Jamie’s father will reappear during season 7 part 2.

Instead of pondering if it might take the shape of dreams, flashbacks or something else, it’s been revealed that he is indeed living and thriving during Roger’s personal time-travel adventure.

After appearing in Outlander during its first season, Whipp has gone on to feature in numerous other shows, including Six Four, Bodies, Shetland, and Subservience.

It appears that Brian is eager to aid Roger in his search for his son, even though he hasn’t met Jemmy himself. He offers Roger entry into their place, yet Roger swiftly ponders the era he might be in now.

In the new casting, Jamie’s sibling, Jenny (now portrayed by Kristin Atherton), makes an entrance, causing another spin of confusion for Roger. However, Brian extends a warm welcome, asking Roger to spend the night and promising to inquire about Jemmy the next day.

Later that evening, Roger is left with his own thoughts to figure out what year he’s actually in.

Previously, Brian had shared that Jamie was studying at a university in France. This leads Roger to deduce that Jamie must be from either 1739 or 1740. He finds himself puzzled, pondering if Rob and Jemmy also landed in the incorrect time period.

Roger says, ‘I won’t leave without him; it would be impossible for me to face my wife if I don’t have our son by my side.’

It’s also possible that Jemmy and Rob landed in the incorrect era, much like our main character. Let’s hope Roger manages to track down Jemmy; only time will tell.
