Outlander’s Sam Heughan on character return: ‘The audience will gasp’

As a movie critic who has been following Outlander since its inception, I must say that the return of this captivating series is a breath of fresh air after a long hiatus. The ninth episode of season 7, titled “Unfinished Business,” serves as a testament to the complex and intricate relationships within the show, particularly between Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Laoghaire (Nell Hudson).

The first episode of season 7’s second half of Outlander certainly had us looking this way and that!)

In a twist that many viewers were not expecting in the highly anticipated ninth episode, it’s revealed that Jamie (Sam Heughan) finds himself needing to express his apologies to Laoghaire (Nell Hudson).

Heughan continued, “Deep down, he recognizes that she’s in pain. He wishes to aid her and ensure her well-being, but there’s also Joni – he holds a tender spot in his heart for her. Given their shared history, he feels a sense of responsibility and is a compassionate individual. I believe he’s working through various matters to bring closure.

He’s settled down in America, yet there are aspects he chooses to distance himself from. It’s delightful to witness Nell Hudson reappear. She’s a character that many viewers seem to love to dislike. As soon as she appears on screen, I believe you’ll notice an intake of breath from the audience.

Absolutely, this chapter was quite enjoyable to re-experience with so many beloved characters. However, it’s a mixed feeling, as we must bid farewell to some cherished characters and settings too.

It’s certainly been a roller coaster ride between Jamie and Laoghaire over the years, with the pair having married and divorced, making Laoghaire one of the most contentious characters in Outlander, to say the least.

Title of the ninth episode from Unfinished Business appears to wrap up a few unresolved matters, yet it’s just the beginning of part 2, which means there’s still an abundance of drama left in store for us.

Over the next few months, the seventh season of Outlander, consisting of 16 episodes, will reach its conclusion, signifying that we’re nearly at the end, with only one more season left – season 8 – to follow thereafter.

Although it’s regrettable that the popular show is concluding after season 8, there’s a new series, Blood of my Blood, on the horizon to keep us excited, and it appears that there’s a lot of anticipation for another Outlander sequel.

Lately, Outlander actor David Berry shared details about the alleged Lord John Grey spin-off’s fate, yet he expressed continued interest in the project.

It seems the key is locating a suitable network and generating audience enthusiasm to consider creating a spin-off.
