This week, a number of new independent games are expected to release on all significant gaming platforms, including the Xbox Series X|S. Interestingly, this week seems particularly rich in such releases.
This is due to the fact that the firm’s ID@Xbox project, designed to assist independent developers in self-publishing and advertising their games on Xbox and the Microsoft Store for Windows, has revealed that more than 25 indie games are debuting on Xbox this week. Two of these games have already been released and can be played immediately.
Microsoft announced via Twitter that this week is one of the busiest launch weeks for ID they’ve ever had, with over 25 independent games debuting on Xbox! Today alone, we’re starting off with 2. No matter if you’re a fan of cat-themed board games or action adventures amidst a zombie apocalypse, there’s something here for everyone!
The second part of the statement mentions two indie games released on Xbox on Tuesday: Quilts and Cats of Calico and UNDYING. These two games are quite distinct; Quilts and Cats of Calico is a charming puzzle game from last year where you sew vibrant quilts to bring in friendly cats, while UNDYING, released this year, is a story-driven RPG that follows mother Anling and her son Cody as they journey, craft, and battle for survival in a post-zombie apocalypse world.
1. Version 1:
The prices for Quilts and Cats of Calico, as well as UNDYING, stand at $19.99 each. Interestingly, you can find Quilts and Cats of Calico on Xbox One too, which is great news if you’re still playing games on older-generation consoles. Moreover, it’s worth mentioning that UNDYING offers a free demo on Steam, so if you’re hesitant about purchasing the game, you can test it out first on your PC. Unfortunately, neither of these games is accessible through Xbox Game Pass at this time; however, there’s hope for the future.
2. Version 2:
Quilts and Cats of Calico, along with UNDYING, both retail for $19.99. Notably, Quilts and Cats of Calico can be found on Xbox One, which is a bonus if you’re still gaming on previous-generation consoles. Additionally, it should be noted that UNDYING comes with a free demo available on Steam, so if you’re uncertain about buying the game, you can try it out first on your computer. Unfortunately, neither title is currently offered through Xbox Game Pass; however, there may be a chance they will be added in the future.
As a tech enthusiast, Quilts and Cats of Calico isn’t typically the game I gravitate towards, but I’m thrilled to see it on Xbox for those who enjoy more laid-back, relaxing experiences. On the other hand, UNDYING seems tailor-made for me. Once I’ve delved deep into Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and its immersive medieval open world, I’m eagerly looking forward to giving UNDYING a spin.
